We are so excited to debut our Blog and welcome Hannah Helgeson as our Writing and Research Assistant!

As I move through the world, I've noticed that in everyday encounters - in the bathroom, talking with vendors, on the airplane, etc - everyone I speak with tells me either their own story with urinary tract infections (UTIs) or that of a family member or friend who has experienced UTIs. Often these stories are filled with emotional experiences as they've had to navigate UTIs in silence and with little healthcare.

We aim to break that silence and talk UTI! It is time to widely recognize and take seriously that UTIs account for 25% of the world's infections causing unspeakable suffering physically, mentally, emotionally and financially.

Have you taken a look at our blogs? We have published blogs covering topics related to chronic and recurrent UTI such as: Mental health consequences of chronic UTI, Bacteriophage therapy as an emerging treatment, and how doctors dismiss patients with UTI.

Mental Health and Suicidal Ideation with Chronic UTI

“At the age of 23, I feel like my life has ended before it's even properly started. Suicide is on my mind most days. Most of the things I enjoyed in life I cannot do. I feel like a shell of the person I used to be.”

What is Phage Therapy anyway?

"Unlike antibiotics, phage therapy can target specific antibiotic-resistant bacteria, multiplying and continuing to fight off infections in the process. For people living with UTI who haven’t found success with antibiotic treatment, this is a hopeful option for the future."

How our medical system fails those with UTI

"Most people living with UTI will experience doctors outright disregarding them, if not fully doubting their knowledge of their lived experience. This is in part due to the research outpacing what is being taught in medical education."

We hope to spread awareness about the many facets of this condition and what it's like to live with recurrent and chronic UTIs. In addition, look forward to more frequent newsletters discussing UTI and developments related to the disease. Together, we all can shine a light on the issues related to UTI in order to facilitate change!

Yours in service,

LAURA
