Dear To our dear ELABORATOR family, Happy New Year! Welcome to the inaugural edition of the ELABORATOR newsletter. 2023 has been an exciting year, as we took our first steps into the project and began elaborating (pun intended) on how to deliver on our mission towards fostering safe, inclusive, and sustainable urban mobility within our cities. Our consortium met just last week for the second time in our Lighthouse city of Issy-les-Moulineaux, and to celebrate the occasion we are thrilled to share with you some of the highlights of this past year. Take a stroll down memory lane with us as we reflect on the progress we have made so far. |

Opening words from ELABORATOR's Coordinator |
Welcome to the first ELABORATOR e-newsletter issue which will keep you up-to-date with the project’s progress and latest achievements. ELABORATOR is an initiative funded by the Horizon EU programme for designing inclusive, safe, affordable and sustainable urban mobility, paving the way for climate-neutral cities. ELABORATOR stands for ‘The European Living Lab on designing sustainable urban mobility towards climate neutral cities’. The project uses a holistic approach for planning, designing, implementing and deploying specific innovations and interventions towards safe, inclusive and sustainable urban mobility. |
These interventions consist of smart enforcement tools, space redesign and dynamic allocation, shared services, and integration of active and green modes of transportation. Join us in supporting cities in the transition towards climate neutrality through the promotion of zero-emission, shared, active and human-centred mobility. Our aim is to make cities within which citizens not only live but thrive! Enjoy! - Dr. Angelos Amditis, Research & Development Director at the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS) and ELABORATOR project coordinator. |

Our journey towards a sustainable yet inclusive urban mobility |
For sustainable urban mobility interventions to be truly effective, inclusivity and citizen engagement are essential - this principle lies at the heart of ELABORATOR and our Work Package (WP) 2 partners have been hard at work to provide partners with the right tools to ensure this is reflected throughout our pilot cities. Find out all about WP2's recent work in this regard in the articles below: |

ELABORATOR keeps going strong - offline and on! |
Last year, we set the wheels in motion by actively participating in different events to introduce our project and showcase our unique approach to a safer and more inclusive sustainable mobility. Find out all about them in the articles below: |

Meet our sister projects! |
To ensure we truly achieve our mission and maximise our efforts, we have joined forces with our Urban Public Space Design Cluster, featuring our sister projects REALLOCATE and AMIGOS. Fueled by the shared mission of designing inclusive, safe, affordable, and sustainable urban mobility, we aim to create synergies and reinforce each other's work, creating a greater overall impact in the take-up of innovative solutions Find out more about our sister projects below: |

AMIGOS Through co-creation and digital tools, AMIGOS identifies mobility challenges in five Living Lab cities and ten Urban Areas, termed 'Safety Improvement Areas.' Digital tools collect new data, feeding a big data platform for analysing and creating digital twins to visualize mobility scenarios. Urban stakeholders use these tools to co-develop tailored mobility solutions, focusing on traffic reduction, enhancing public and active mobility, improving safety, and promoting multimodality across the fifteen cities. Key stakeholders, including public authorities and vulnerable users, actively contribute to policy and technological adaptations outlined in the mobility solutions.
REALLOCATE REALLOCATE catalyses transformative mobility changes, fostering integrated and sustainable solutions in European cities. Aligned with Mission Cities 2030, the four-year project supports net-zero carbon objectives and accelerates innovative urban mobility tools. Ten Mission Cities collaborate in twinned pairs, developing expertise with thematic experts to implement zero-emission, inclusive, and citizen-centred interventions.

Why we shouldn’t ignore the transport needs of young people A recent study from UWE and Sustrans warns that young people cannot access work, education and social opportunities due to transport barriers. It finds that 16-24-year-olds make 21% fewer trips compared to other working-age adults. Read more |
