Ann Elmore

Transition House

Spring has sprung at the Ann Elmore house, and we feel blessed to have a new volunteer gardener to help us keep the greenspace beautiful. The yard is looking amazing, and this is also due to the staff and women who stay here that have also been pitching in to create such an inviting space.

We have had two new staff join our team which has been a lovely addition, and we also have a practicum student that will be shadowing us until mid-June.

The Ann Elmore house has consistently been seeing longer stays due to the housing crisis and the unaffordable rates of rentals. We have found that women who have pets increases challenges as it narrows the affordable market even further. We continue to operate at max capacity almost daily.

A Message from the Executive Director

The Campbell River & NI Transition Society has had a busy start to summer with Drive Away from Domestic Violence wrapping up. DADV was a huge success and we raised much needed funds for vulnerable women and children. I want to thank our sponsors and the community for their generosity to make this event happen. I also want to thank my staff that worked tirelessly to make this event happen. We look forward to hosting this event every year and making it more successful.

We are so excited to announce that Eagle Harbour will be opening this Fall 2023 and will provide 36 units of 2nd stage housing for vulnerable women and children fleeing abuse. Eagle Harbour will also provide 19 units of affordable long-term housing for vulnerable senior women in our community. We would like to welcome our new manager Katie Suen and our new maintenance worker Steve Munro that has recently joined our Eagle Harbour team.  Affordable, safe housing for vulnerable women and children is still desperately needed in our community and we are already seeing a lot of expression of interest for our new building. We have received a generous grant from SPARC BC to provide $450 welcome home kits to all the new tenants that move into Eagle Harbour.

We are also excited to be moving our Women’s Center into a much-needed larger space at Eagle Harbour. The Women’s Center continues to be busy, seeing on average 300-400 drops ins a month.

CRNITS is a fast-paced, growing organization, and like many sectors we are experiencing staffing challenges. If you want to work for a positive organization that is passionate about helping women and children, please visit our website at annelmorehouse.ca/opportunities.

Thank you to our sponsors and supporters for their generosity, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do without you.
