ACWA Board Meeting-New Website Format

The ACWA board met on Nov. 23rd.  Board members Jim Powell, Sandy McKinnis and Tom Stafford were present. Also present were Lisa and Bob Lackey, Tam Pikey, Gino DelFrate and James Massey.  The discussion focused on creating one website for all of the clubs.  The decision was made to convert the current woodworkers website to one for all the clubs under the ACWA umbrella.  Lisa Lackey will be working on the site over the next month or so.  SO, be aware that it’s under construction and isn’t totally updated yet.

Each club will have a pull-down menu with club description and news about meetings and classes.  We will have one central class/meeting schedule for all the clubs.  Class registration and membership signup will be done through the paypal account for the website.   Tam Pikey has volunteered to be our new editor for the Woodchip and will publish it through the website and distribute it through email to members.  Our website plan allows us to send out up to 5,000 emails a month to keep members informed.

CALLING ALL INSTRUCTORS! HELP NEEDED FOR NEW PROGRAM:

Gino DelFrate has volunteered to staff our shop area one time per month to help folks with projects.  He has already linked up with one member.  We would like to have more open shop times available so members can bring their own projects to work on/or those they need help with.  Shop monitors/instructors/mentors needed.  We are hoping to hold the open shop weekly if we get enough members to help out.  Please contact: Sandy Mckinnis @907-562-3994 or akspeech@mtaonline.net.

NOTICE: Monthly Meetings; Time and Day changed: The 2nd Tues of the month from 5-7. We meet at the new AIH at 8801 Old Seward Hwy.  It’s in the mall at the corner of the Old Seward Hwy and Diamond Blvd. We’ll have the meeting in their training center.  Please wear a mask.

2. The December 11th meeting included prizes for the best Christmas ornaments and presents, and a resurrection of the 2 x 4um contest.   Contact Sandy Mckinnis if you like to participate and we’ll reserve a 2 x 6 you can use to create something really neat!

Woodworking: the act, process, or occupation of working wood into a useful or desired form

From the Scrollers

Happy New Year! Hope everyone was able to make some exciting Christmas gifts. We are sad to announce that Santa was unable to deliver the toys to the hospitals due to Covid restrictions. We were told of this situation just days before Christmas. The toys and puzzles will be held until next year. We’re open to suggestions of other locations we
could share the toys with.

Despite having a surplus this year, we will continue to make puzzles and toys for next year. There will be wood available for puzzles at the next meeting.

The next meeting is scheduled for January 15th from 10-2 in the new AIH training room on Diamond. There is a scroll class being offered the same day at the AIH on the old Seward highway. If you haven’t registered for the class you can come to the scroller meeting and we’ll provide you with the education, wood and the use of a saw.

We hope to see previous members and those that took the class last year. All are welcome.
