Summertime is here! It's the hot and gross season! I joke that the summer months are our "winter" months because while the rest of the country is going to outdoor festivals and having BBQs in their backyards, we are grocery shopping after dark and binge-watching the latest drama series on Netflix. But never fear! Your local bookstore is here to cut your boredom! Every day, we have new books going out on the shelves, and we just got in a box of new activity books! And, of course, our couch and classroom table area is always there for you if you just need to spend some time with other humans. Covid made us comfortable with being isolated, but we forget how damaging it can be if we isolate too much. Pick up a slushie from QT and come socialize. Happy Friday! |

Editor's last words: Reflecting on Memorial Day |
Monday is the day reserved for us to think about the brave men and women who gave their lives for a cause bigger than themselves, knowing they were fighting for freedoms they may never be able to enjoy. Did you know Memorial Day was started right after the Civil War? Americans were fighting Americans. It was the most life we have ever lost. Because of those sacrifices, rights were finally established, and we were moving in the right direction toward equality of all Americans. We had a long way to go, but it was a good start. Fighting each other was horrifying, but it was not in vain. So here we are, 158 years since the Civil War ended, with the choices of how we want to honor those lost Americans. Being thankful is a good start. But maybe we want to do a little more. I know for my part, I could listen a little more, appreciate those around me a little more, take time to understand those who think differently than me, and work to help those around me discuss rather than argue to share our ideas. Every day is an opportunity to learn and grow to make America better than yesterday just like those patriots did from long ago, and Monday I encourage you to come up with a way you too can show your thanks for what we have and a way you can work to continue to improve our country. I believe our country is pretty great already, and I'm motivated to focus a little energy each day to making it just a little bit better than it was yesterday. We wish you and your families a safe and happy holiday weekend. (Sounds like a great time to start in on a new book!) ~ Charity and Amy (and Jack and Toothless) |
