The Pollinator Times

It's Almost Here!

The beautiful Pollinator Anthology - over 300 pages of more than 350 paintings, photographs, poems, and even a song, all about pollinators here in the Rogue Valley - has been ordered and is on its way! Gratitude again to the sponsors, donors, contributors, and volunteers who are making this project possible, and of course to artists and editors Eden Orlando and Rebeca Ramm, who envisioned this project and invited us to be a part of it.
Join us on June 18th at the Catalyst Ashland Gallery for your first opportunity to view and purchase the book or pick up your presale copy! Two pricing options are available: $40 and a Special Edition for $70! Proceeds from the sale of the published Pollinator Anthology will benefit Pollinator Project Rogue Valley and our work advocating for wild pollinators and our native ecology in the Rogue Valley. Visit our website, or follow the anthology on Instagram and Facebook to see sneak peeks and to stay up to date!

Looking & Learning: A Pollinator Adventure
on Mt. Ashland

Sunday July 10   10am - 2pm

We are looking forward to this fun and educational event on Mt. Ashland with Travis Owen - we'll bee swinging nets and looking at all sorts of pollinators up close and personal! Join us for a slow hike as we explore pollination ecology and the role of pollinators in the environment. With a focus on bees and the flowers they depend on, we will also observe other wildlife and the ecosystem they share. We  are very pleased to have the Native Plant Society of Oregon, Siskiyou Chapter as a co-sponsor, with Katelyn Detweiler as our plant guide for the day! Learn more and register on Eventbrite here. Limited to 12 adults; children under the age of 16 are not required to register.

An Amazing Pollinator Garden!

Even (Especially!) with the rain, it was a lovely Native Plant & Pollinator Botanical Garden Tour at Troon Vineyard on June 5 with Suzie Savoie of Klamath Native Seeds and the Siskiyou Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Oregon! We learned a lot, saw amazing native plants (yes, some of them will be added to our gardens!), and even managed to see some pollinators in and amongst the rain drops. Thanks to all who came out! We are hoping this will be an annual event. Enjoy our photo album from the day, with thanks to Joy Savoie and Linda Kappen for adding their photos.

Are You on the No Spray List?

The year's first adult mosquito treatments by Jackson County Vector Control happened last week. To protect your property from products that are labeled as toxic to bees and fish (research the 3 adulticides listed here), we strongly encourage you to sign up for the 'No Spray' list, and also sign up to receive notifications of their planned spray activity. We appreciate this information from Beyond Pesticides, and their important article about protecting pollinators. Related, we suggest using personal anti-mosquito products that are safe for people and the environment. The pollinators thank you!

Coyote Mint Is On!

A favorite in our native pollinator garden is starting to 'pop'! Is your Coyote mint blooming yet? The flowers of this very drought-tolerant plant are a fave of bees, butterflies, hoverflies and more, and it serves as a host plant for moths. People like it too! Bee sure to rub the leaves for the amazing scent, and try it in a mint tea for tummy troubles. See the photo below, or come by our office garden to see the real thing!

Pollinators' Pick

We love this. "If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it’s probably a duck. But a new California court ruling means that if it looks like a bee, flies like a bee and buzzes like a bee — it’s a fish." Click to find out why "Bees aren’t fish, but it’s good that a California court thinks they are".
