JANUARY 2024 Updates from STUDIO HROMI |
|
|
How far into January can we reasonably still call it the "new year"? For me 2024 began with a new shop announcement! In addition to my primary online shop, Studio Hromi is also now on Redbubble! I'd been toying with the idea for many months and wondering how best to handle managing and promoting both my primary shop with its physical inventory AND a print-on-demand presence. For now, any sold out and/or discontinued designs from my main shop will eventually end up on Redbubble, where you can get them in a range of formats and on countless different products. Also, from January 22-28, everything is 25% off! |

CONCERTS UNDER THE STARS: SNEAK PEEK |
|
|
On February 15 and 16, I will be providing visual accompaniment to local musician Brother Wolf during a concert in the Grand Rapids Public Museum's Roger B. Chaffee Planetarium. I've spent the last couple weeks working on visuals and testing them in the planetarium, and I'm so excited to see it come together. Here are a few of my favorite stills so far, from the songs Wait, Snakes, and Meltdown Breakthrough (just imagine these images in motion, and stretched over a 50-foot dome). |

About Concerts Under the Stars: Concerts Under the Stars are immersive fulldome concert experiences highlighting local musicians and visual artists. Local West Michigan bands perform their music, enhanced by original video art projected onto the planetarium’s 50-foot dome. Musicians and visual artists collaborate to weave together an exclusive immersive concert experience that has quickly become a staple of the underground West Michigan music scene. About This Event: If you're in Grand Rapids, Concerts Under the Stars in general are not to be missed. These shows sell out fast, so be sure to get your tickets right away! Music starts at 7:30pm with doors opening at 6:30pm. The show consists of two sets with a short intermission in between. Refreshments, beer, and other beverages will be available for purchase, as will merch from musicians and visual artists alike. Tickets are $20, with discounted pricing of $16 for GRPM members, and can be purchased here. |

Below are a couple of interesting and illuminating articles I've collected in the last month, related to the industries of science and art. |

All Science journals will now do an AI-powered check for image fraud The research publisher Science announced that all of its journals will begin using commercial software that automates the process of detecting improperly manipulated images. This move comes many years into our awareness that the transition to digital data and publishing has made it comically easy to commit research fraud by altering images... |

Etsy lays off 225 workers after ‘essentially flat’ sales, says CEO Etsy is laying off 225 employees in a bid to cut costs as it grapples with “very challenging” economic headwinds... Staff were notified in a livestream on Wednesday by Josh Silverman, its chief executive, who blamed the fact that gross merchandise sales on Etsy had remained “essentially flat” for two years... |

You can also shop anytime online at studiohromi.com/shop and Redbubble, and while supplies last at the Grand Rapids Public Museum Curiosity Shop and Scorpion Hearts Club. I'm currently looking for one or two additional local spots to sell my wares, so if you have any ideas for shops that would be a good fit please pass them along. |

As always, Instagram is where I'm most active online, but you can follow me on any of the social media platforms below, plus Tumblr and Threads. |
