Cheerleading has been a part of the Gay Games since the very first Gay Games in San Francisco in 1982! As one of the four “Core Cultural Components,” cheerleading is inextricable from the Culture and Ceremonies of the Gay Games. It is now also a List A Sport, meaning that the Charitable Cheerleading competition is also a required sport at the Games. Registration on gggdl2023.org is OPEN TO ALL. Any adult in the world may register! The Pride Cheerleading Association is the governing body for Cheerleading as it exists in both categories of SPORT and CULTURE at Gay Games 11 Guadalajara 2023 (November 1-12, 2023).
SPORT: In registration, the competitive divisions are listed out: “Group Stunt,” “Partner Stunt” and “Pom Dance.” If you register as a “Participant” in the event of “Cheerleading” and choose any (or all!) of these divisions, you are signing up to compete in PCA’s Charitable Cheerleading Competition on Wednesday November 8, 2023 at Revolution Sports Center (CODE Polideportivo Revolución). The day prior, Tuesday November 7, is your opportunity for onsite practice, run-of-show rehearsal, and informal judges review.
CULTURE: In registration, this is referred to as “Exhibition Cheerleading.” If you register as a “Participant” in the event of “Cheerleading” and choose “Exhibition Cheerleading,” this is your primary indication of interest in Opening Ceremonies, Closing Ceremonies, volunCHEERing at sports, and other non-competitive exhibition routines performed by small groups, whole teams, or All-PCA that occur throughout the week. If you are on a PCA Member Team, this probably makes complete sense to you. If you are not on a PCA Member Team, please contact PCA (events@pridecheerleading.org) to discuss.
PCA ROUTINE: A special perk for PCA at each Gay Games is a short performance slot in the entertainment programming for the Opening Ceremonies. Each cycle, the Opening Ceremonies carries over some traditional components, but also some unique components are innovated by the local production company in the Host City. The local production company in Guadalajara will work directly with PCA and other high-profile speakers and performing acts. Performing volunCHEERleaders from PCA are integrated into a large-scale PCA Routine (cheerleading stunts, skills, and dance motions) choreographed by PCA. There is a process for performers who are not from PCA to request to be included. Deadlines are coming to an end soon, as uniforms for this performance must be ordered by August 15.
PCA Member Team Volunteers, contact your Delegate for ordering link and password. If you are not on a PCA Member Team, contact events@pridecheeerleading.org. Anyone may contact us at any time for anything regarding Gay Games Guadalajara. We’re always down for a chat! Registration closes October 1, 2023!
PCA Uniform THANK YOU: PCA owes a HUGE THANK YOU to our uniform and merch partner, FSP Designs! The tireless team at FSP worked ‘round the clock to source the perfect pieces for our PCA Uniform, always with our unwavering “all bodies, all genders” standards in mind. Unlike any other company, FSP was able to create a customized, private online store, respecting every detail we asked for, and creating an individualized ordering, payment, and shipping process for us. Every person ordering feels represented, individually seen, and cared for. Thank you, FSP.
