Minutes from January 9, 2023 Meeting of Tree City Quilters Guild
Trish Everitt opened the meeting by welcoming all. In attendance were 38 members, including new member Melanie Sowers, and one visitor, Nondy Smith. Trish recognized Jan Fenniman, Pamela Howell, Anne Mullis, Louise Rothman, Charlene Stroehlen, and Marité Haynes, all who were celebrating January birthdays.
1. Old Business
a. The December minutes were approved. First and second motions to approve were made by Donna York and Betty Sue Vincent, respectively.
b. The September Treasurer’s report was approved. First and second motions to approve were made by Yoka Aarnoudse Betty Sue Vincent, respectively.
2. Announcements
a. Several members announced that they had not received the January Newsletter.
b. Sharon Fuentes announced that the charity workshop scheduled for January 16, 2023, would not be held at the Senior Center which would be closed for MLK day. Betty Sue Vincent agreed to see if there was a room available at Grace Baptist Church on that date. Sharon was to let members know by email of the new location for the workshop.
c. Of the two dates open for the spring retreat, those present opted for March 24 and 25.
3. Program - Sharon Fuentes, Sandy Pozzetta, Donna York, and Elaine Peltcs presented quilting techniques in a round-robin forum.
a. Sharon Fuentes showed how to achieve flat seams by using Best Press Starch® and a clapper board when pressing on a wool mat.
b. Sandy Pozzetta demonstrated a time-saving technique to construct a simple nine patch using two 6-inch squares assembled right sides together.
c. Donna York shared a technique to rejuvenate old dried thread using mineral oil.
d. Elaine Peltcs demonstrated how fork pins (she used Magic Fork Pins) could be used to achieve perfectly matched seams.
4. Door Prizes were won by Tammy Clark and Becky Zolt.
Following Show and Tell, the meeting was adjourned.
