Madam Letter Ladies, This is the last day of July? Really, are you sure? It sure feels like the end of January when the Matlacha Hookers have a full calendar of fun island events and Committe Meetings! Except it's a lot warmer; whew. Just in case you've missed all that happened in July, here are the highlights: Pine Island Elementary School Supply Drive started by dropping off the collection bins and lists all over the island. F.I.S.H Clothing for Kids Drive on Pine Island. We adopted 20 children to purchase clothing for and several members helped the day of the event. The Fourth of July Parade and Fireworks!

The Matlacha Hookers were awarded 2nd Place in the Parade!! The American Legion was awarded a well-deserved 1st Place. Stop by Beltran's Landscaping and Nursery near the 4-way any time just to say Thank You for providing their trailer for our float! Pictured from L to R; Penny, Monica, Lola (BELTRAN'S!), Cindy and DJ. |

The Fireworks at the Legion were AWESOME!! (Allright, I'll admit I'm a just a tiny bit biased since my Tom is 'Mr. Fireworks....this was his 15th year!). But wait, there's more! See what happened later in the month. (Ha! I've been waiting a long time to share my 'But wait, there's more!' comment. **) MangoMania on Saturday, July 16th at OLMM in Bokeelia hosted by the Greater Pine Island Chamber of Commerce. Besides helping out with the Children's Activities; we had our Merchandise on site and ALL of the Cool Neck Wraps were sold raising monies for the 2023 Scholarship Program. Yucatan Waterfront celebrated their 5th Year Anniversary and by hosting a Dock Party on Sunday, July 17th. Yup, the next day after MangoMania. Hey, it was their Anniversary!! Stuff the Trailer School Supply Drive on Saturday, July 23rd. Pine Island Auto Care provided the trailer and rode along with their Monster Truck! Stop by and say thanks to Todd and Bob. We started at the Ragged Ass Saloon at 11am picking up the School Supply Bins. Just sharing that we shared what we were doing along the way accepted donations for school supplies and raised over $723 that day!! Here's the ** We gave our 4th of July Trophy to Lola at Beltran's! Stop by and give Lola, Rene and Oscar big Hooker Hugs!
Finally, we cannot do what we do best without YOU! Thank You to Karen D and her Team for their dedication for the School Supply and the FISH Back to School Clothing Drives! Personally, I'm looking forward to the Lazy Days of August. Hooker Hugs to all of you! Madam DJ |

Back to School Fair featuring the Pine Island FISH Clothing for Kids was a BIG HIT Thank you again to the Matlacha Hookers for all of the children adopted and for those who came out to help with distribution yesterday. At total of 219 children, almost half of which plan to attend PIE, were registered for the program, which is a 30% increase versus last year. This year the program was expanded to a Back to School Fair format featuring many health and wellness products and services available in SWFL to our island children. |
|
|
In addition to receiving their clothing and gift cards, each child received hygiene products, and had the opportunity for free immunizations and hearing and eye checks from the Department of Health; learn about a variety of services and resources from Lee Health and the Golisano Children’s Hospital; receive free bicycle helmets from the Blue Zone Project of SWFL, school supplies and a vitals health check from the Matlacha Pine Island Fire Department, and stickers and safety information from Reunite with Lee County United Way and the Lee County Sherriff’s Community Response Unit. In addition, the Pine Island Library was offering free books and library card sign up, Beacon of Hope shared their services, Pine Island United Methodist Church showcased their free Kid’s Clothing Room and signups for Vacation Bible School and the Pine Island Elementary Backpack program, along with fresh produce and food boxes were on hand for all families to pick up. All of the agencies are in again for next year, so look for the expanded format to continue. Thank you again for your participation in this important program for our island children! Karen |
