Members' Updates

Fran Brammer

New projects underway

Member Fran Brammer is working hard to create a commission piece for the Friends of York City Walls.

Based on the patterns and textures of the stones that make up the walls Fran has developed an iron stained calico base with a layer of pulled and distorted metallic organza which contrasts with the hand painted pleated and torn silk of  the central stone. True to form Fran has then added lots of stitch!

Jane Mercer

 Entangled Exhibition

Jane Mercer has several pieces in the recently opened Entangled exhibition at Armely Mills Leeds.  The museum in the centre of Leeds is housed in what was once the world's largest woollen mill.

This exhibition which has been organised by the local area of the International Felt makers Association is spread throughout the Museum and its grounds. It will be open for visitors for the next year. The exhibition aims to show the complex connections between industry and the environment.  Janes's piece Mending Matters highlights the need to minimize textile waste by mending our clothes not throwing them away.       The Golden Gillet uses tailoring techniques to sew naturally dyed hand-made felt into a waistcoat.

Jo Yeates

Time for rest and relaxation

Jo's artistic endeavours are somewhat thwarted at the moment by Life Getting In The Way. However, she has managed to find a little time to try some big stitch hand quilting for the first time. It's very meditative, and a balm for the soul.
