COLLECTING PHOTOGRAPHY

Two things this month. Five of the key collecting considerations and an introduction to Photo Eye emerging photographers. Photo Eye is the photo bookshop in NYC.

5 Essential Tips for Collecting Photography

There is a difference between an image-say, the photographer's JPEG file-and the print. Individual images are issued in an edition, which is the artist's binding statement as to how many prints of that image will be made, said Himes. "One thing people get hung up on is, what's the "original" photograph?"

Gordon Parks and "Harlem Gang Leader" - The Gordon Parks Foundation - Google Arts & Culture

According to Gordon Parks, after the editors finished the layout of the issue, they called him in to show him the final version. To his surprise and chagrin, the editors had chosen one of his pictures, of Red Jackson holding a smoking gun, for the cover of the issue.
