Hello all, It is already mid-September, but this newsletter still is a 'summer issue' for me, as I am writing you this from a very sunny and hot Athens, Greece! For the past 4 years, we have been driving with our car from The Netherlands to Bodrum-Turkey and back, traveling through Europe. On the way back, we pass through Athens, as we use the Kos-Athens ferry and then spend plenty of time in Greece and Italy before heading up North to the less sunny countries and back to our home in The Netherlands. Road trips and travelling have always given me inspiration, motivation and life energy, as well as good amount of contemplation time. Hence, there was my chance again to think about my summer, contemplate and write few notes on savouring life, aging, mindfulness and self care. What does savouring life mean to you? This summer was the first time that I had the opportunity to slow down, after 24 years of teaching yoga and mindfulness non-stop. I had a break with all the group classes online or in person and just continued with a few private classes through the summer. This enabled me to focus more on myself. Although teaching is my passion, creating this time for my self care, helped me to cultivate more self awareness, embrace all the changes going on with aging and contemplate on my priorities. During this time, which was also very rich with mindfulness, ‘savouring life’ to the maximum felt so good. Especially as this was the summer that I turned 50! According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, this point balances the excess heat, bringing calm by regulating heart qi. Heart 8 acupressure point is located at the palm (make a loose fist and the point is right where the tip of your pinkie finger lands). You can stimulate this point by pressing into the area with your thumb, holding for about a minute and enjoying the grounding and cooling effects. |
