NOVEMBER 2023

Hi there,

Of course, I will again share work from recent times and zoom in on a wonderment from last month.

But I would also love to hear what you think of the newsletter!
You have been receiving it irregularly for a year now. I am thinking of stepping it up and making it more regular. Of course, I won't send anything if there is no news, but I intend to send something every month. Maybe a bit shorter than what you are used to.

My ambition is to be more visible and because I will also be more active on social media, I want to give you priority access to new work.

I enjoy making the newsletter but it takes time. Therefore I would like to hear what you like and what could be improved to keep it interesting and engaging.

Press the 'tell Frank' button at the bottom of this letter for your highly appreciated tips, comments and suggestions.

Warm regards,

Frank

SCHIELE IN THE MUSEUM OF ART IN DEN HAAG

Well, I have to share this....

This work by Egon Schiele hangs in the art museum in The Hague where we were with the family last month. It is his wife in a homemade wedding dress made of curtain fabric. I could easily stand in front of it for an hour and marvel at the expression of the use of colour, the expression on her face, the wonderful pose of the hands and floating composition.

I am a huge fan of Egon Schiele's work. His searching but striking linework is a strong component and I love it immensely.

The suffering, the raw, dirty side of life is very visible in his work. And, in my mind, beautifully intertwined with his appreciation of the beauty of the human body.

Three years after making this piece, all three, Egon, his wife Edith and the child in her belly, died of illness.

NEW PORTRAIT SERIES

Olie on canvas, 30 x 40 cm.

I recently started a new series of portraits for a client; Three portraits of sisters in oil on 30 x 40 cm canvas.

Here you can see the first quick monochrome layer over which I will later apply colour. Of course there will be a 'making Of' later and in the meantime I will share progress in the newsletter.

If you are also interested in a portrait of a loved one or an animal you have a special bond with, please feel free to contact me. I will be happy to listen to your story and think with you about the execution and finishing to match your personal preference and interior.

BLOG

Since there were many positive comments about the sketch below, I decided to dedicate a blog to it. So if you want to see more of the previous stages of this work and read about what my considerations were while making it, you can read about them in this blog on my website in English and Dutch.
