Our mission is to mentor and support first-generation
students for college success.

We've Been Busy Lately!

• In May we welcomed 10 amazing new Campus Bound Scholars who we matched with 10 wonderful adult mentors to support them right through to college graduation 2024!

• In June we celebrated our newest college grads with a virtual ceremony and gifts including a $250 check. Read some of their stories below.

• In June we hosted a "Listen & Learn Forum" for our students to share their personal experiences with racial injustice.

• We continue to award Rapid Response Emergency Grants to students with pressing financial needs such as food insecurity.

• We recently held our first in a series of virtual support groups led by a psychologist on our Advisory Council who specializes in working with college students under stress.

LUIS COBARRUBIA RECINOS

Cornell University graduate

(shown here with Mentor Wendy Wolf)

"It is hard to believe that four years passed by so fast. I'm thankful for all the wonderful experiences I was able to have during my undergraduate career. This wouldn’t have been possible without the care and support from many amazing individuals who have impacted my life in some way. I won’t deny that it can get really tough at times, but it is important to stay strong and believe in yourself. I want to thank my mentor Wendy Wolf for always keeping in touch with me which helped me stay motivated and focused. I also want to thank all of the CBS staff and my peers for the support and love they shared with me.

This summer I'll stay in Ithaca to work with The Cornell Farmworker Program collecting  information and providing resources to assist NY State farmworkers. I'm excited for this position since it gives me a chance to experience a new field of work not specifically focused on Science. I also plan to use this time to prepare for the MCAT which I'll take soon. Becoming a doctor will allow me to combine my passion for helping others with my amazement in the way our bodies function. I am not yet sure what kind of MD I am going to become, but I'm really looking forward to achieving this next goal. Thank you! "

ANISIA FIGUEROA

University of Albany graduate

“My last semester at the University of Albany was the most interesting, had the most changes, and was the most emotional semester I had at UA. I spent my last semester working full time and receiving 15 credits as an NY State Assembly Session Intern. I imagined graduating to look a lot different then it ended up, but I still felt the same emotions. Once I finished my last paper it hit me that I was actually getting my BA. I actually did it! Leaving my friends and life in Albany was so hard to do, but I’m excited to see where we all end up and when we all reconnect again. I’m so grateful for the experience and to everyone who supported me through my journey.”

FANNY MUNOZ

University of Buffalo graduate

"Being a first-generation college graduate is the greatest accomplishment of my life. Without the constant support of my parents who came here with nothing yet were able to give me every opportunity to make it here, I wouldn't be where I am. The community at CBS has given me such confidence and support which always pushed me not to give up. I'm very grateful and excited to see where life will take me next!"
