Here and There, Then and Now - Resistance in Sudan and the Sudanese Diaspora Over the last two years, youths of Afro-diasporic heritage, especially those from South and North Sudan have been targets of a vitriolic media campaign aimed at demonising and disempowering them. Yet, it is those very same youths, both in the diaspora and their respective countries who are leaders for positive change. In this talk, writer and Sudanese refugee Rafeif Ismail will discuss the current youth-led movement against the Bashir dictatorship and consider how the conversations we have around race in Australia can have far-reaching impacts. FREE Workshops Last year the Womens Health and Family Services ran a series of 8 forums with health professionals discussing Alcohol and Other Drug Issues for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) people and communities. WHFS will be running 2 hour follow-up training workshops with other groups drawing on the findings of the forums. This is with the aim to increase knowledge and confidence to respond appropriately when working with CaLD people/clients experiencing AOD issues. State Disability Plan workshops Development of Western Australia’s 10-year State Disability Plan is underway. The Department of Communities is currently running a series of consultation workshops throughout WA to gain community input and invite you to attend one of these workshops and also to please help promote this opportunity. These workshops are open to everyone including people with disability, family and carers, and those working in the disability/ community services sector or government. These sessions will focus on defining the values of the State Disability Plan as well as the attitudes and behaviours that will support better inclusion for people with disability throughout Western Australia.
