Service Update at Level 5

As of midnight Wednesday 21st October, the entire country will be placed on Level 5 of the Plan for Living with COVID-19

What does this mean for Youth Work Ireland Meath?
We are still permitted to provide some very limited face to face work in small groups. This is in line with the schools and the Department of Children and Youth Affairs Guidelines for Youth Work.

We will be offering a blended (face to face and online) service for the next 6 weeks during the Level 5 restrictions.

Youth Workers will be in touch with groups to make the necessary arrangements and with Young People to schedule any required One to One meetings.

Our Student Leap Card verification service will operate on a scaled back version, by appointment only on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Meet and Code

Our annual Meet and Code events took place on Saturday 10th and Wednesday 28th October.

This year the groups involved learned about solar power energy and stop motion animation, along with Podcasting and sound production

Like so much recently, both events were held online. The solar energy group was younger, aged 9-14 and 14 young people took part.

Podcasting was for our older teens and will be part of our ongoing Digital strategy.

Supported by The Wheel Ireland and Tech Soup Europe.

Lightbulb Club

The Lightbulb Club wanted to do something for those who might be feeling a little lonely as Level 5 restrictions kicked in. So in their last in house group on Wednesday 21st, they decided to create postcards and avail of An Post's amazing offer and freepost them to residents of 2 nursing homes in the county, so residents know they are being thought about during this time.

Millbury Nursing Home Navan and St. Elizabeth's Athboy will be smiling at the wonderful creations.

Core Group Activities under Level 5

As an essential service we will continue to operate under Level 5 guidelines. This means we will offer a blended experience for our core groups. Some will move online while others remain in house. And where we can we will offer a choice to join in with groups from your own home.

We can work in small groups, of up to 6 young people in the Youth Café and we will ensure everyone gets a chance to attend. One to One support will continue as needed.

Our Student Leapcard service will operate on Tuesdays and Fridays by appointment only. And as always, if you need to talk, simply contact your Youth Worker and they will arrange a time to meet you.

Facebook Community Grant

We are delighted to be recipients of a Community Grant from Facebook's Clonee Data Centre.

This grant enabled us to reach out to vulnerable young people and supported them in their mental health as well as engaging with other young people in the service.

Youth Quake

Youth Quake put the final pieces together for their community action project as part of Youth Work Ireland's Our Fair Planet programme.

Some members joined in via Zoom and this was good practice for contingency plans the group made if current restrictions mean we have to hold the event online.

Meath Comhairle na nÓg AGM 2020

On Friday October 23rd, Meath Comhairle na nÓg held their annual AGM and like so much this year it was a virtual event. Despite Zoom fatigue we were overwhelmed by the turnout and participation of schools and their students.

A huge thanks to all who made the day a success but especially to Cathaoirleach of Meath County Council David Gilroy, Renagh Hayden participation officer from DCYA, Minister Thomas Byrne and T.D. Darren O'Rourke and councillors who took part in the discussion.
