"The Earth is what we all have in common."

--Wendell Berry

As we celebrate Earth week, we want to thank you for being part of Decatur Cares About Climate. Here in Decatur, we can do so much to move the needle forward for our city, county and state.

 Dekalb Green New Deal Initiative

DeKalb County is embarking on an ambitious "green new deal" initiative. The kickoff was GREAT and held right here in Decatur. Ted Terry, a huge climate advocate and one our county commissioners, says that the goal of a DeKalb Green New Deal is to simultaneously address the effects of climate change on the county while creating new jobs through renewable energy, energy efficiency, and green infrastructure. We will share more info in coming months, but if you have time now, you can register for one of the zoom meetings below to learn more:

  1. 1.April 19, 7 – 8 PM: A Just and Equitable DeKalb Green New Deal

  2. April 20, 7 – 8 PM: Conservation and Access to Nature

April 22nd from 1-4 is Earth Day on the Square!

Earth Day is such a great day to demonstrate support for environmental protections and to celebrate together. Please come out to Decatur's event on the Square on April 22nd. It will be fun and family friendly! There will be music and yoga and other fun activities. Various groups will have information to share and items to hand out.

Make sure to drop by the Decatur Cares About Climate table to say hello. We will have coloring for the kids, postcards for adults to write to Governor Kemp, and info to share about reducing plastic waste and energy efficiency. Also, BRING CONTAINERS so that you can refill your dish soap and hand soap and house cleaner containers with environmentally friendly products.
