What is happening?

The RC received a $5000 donation to our sewing program.  The grant allows us to buy ten new sewing machines and allow other students to participate in our Saturday classes.

We want to thank the ladies that have donated fabric to the sewing program. We have 3 classes, Beginners, Advanced, and Ages 8-13.  Classes are offered on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Saturday of each month.  Donations are always welcome.

The RC received a grant from the Oregon Health Authority to focus on enhancing the Rockwood and Gresham communities.  The grant includes hiring and developing youth leaders to utilize art and music for social and mental health. Social and mental health has been a great struggle for students of all ages during Covid 19. The free art and music academy program gives kids a place to express their thoughts, feelings, and emotions through the world of art and music.

Welcoming New Friends to The ROCKWOOD CENTER

Jose Aguilar

INEA

The RC is partnering with Jose Aguilar to offer INEA classes. The National Institute for Adult Education (INEA) is a program through the Mexican Government that offers basic educational courses.  Classes start soon.  We are excited to work together to help out the community

Cultivate Initiatives

We started working with Cultivate initiatives in April 2022. They began a four-week trial at the Rockwood center, where they provide showers to anyone in need.  They also provide basic health care and give clothing to those who take showers. They are at the Rockwood Center every Tuesday from 11 am to 2 pm.

BTown Kids

We have opened our kitchen to BECAUSE PEOPLE MATTER Human development organization. They work with DAVIS ELEMENTARY school as one of their program locations. BTown Kids’ program takes place during the summer at a variety of schools.  They provide different activities and hot food for children. The Rockwood Center kitchen is utilized to prep vegetables and fruit, as well as provide storage for food. We are happy to be working with this wonderful partner.

You can check them out at www.bpmpdx.org

Our continued Partners & Friends

Centro De Milagros

Harvest Time Ministries

Centro De Milagros Church has been with us for almost 16 years; Pastor Rolando Valdez and his congregation have helped the Rockwood Center tremendously.  They have a block party during the summer for the whole community to serve the community's needs,

Head Start

MHCC

We are happy that Head start was able to start classes at the Rockwood center. This 2022 school year, they were able to have two days' worth of classes every week. It is quiet now, but we hope to hear the kids having fun in the playground next school year.

Doulas Latinas

Over the last 18 months, the RC and the Doulas Latinas International organization have given over 60 sewing machines to new students.

Snow Cap

Snow Cap's food pantry served two thousand more people in March 2022 than in March 2021! Snow Cap's Food Pantry is OPEN and Ready to Serve!
