What We've Been Up To

On May 16, we hosted a second Fire Hall Chat, this time discussing the city budget. The speakers present were West Fargo City Administrator Dustin Scott, Alex Bakken from the North Dakota State Auditor’s Office, and North Dakota League of Cities Executive Director Matt Gardner. They discussed the process of creating the budget and what challenges North Dakota cities are facing.

Our next Fire Hall Chat will be on July 11. We will be discussing West Fargo students facing homelessness.

On May 18, we hosted a booth at the West Fargo Farmers Market. We talked with many members of the community and made some new connections! At our booth we had two poster boards with questions that the community could answer. We got great responses and can’t wait to share them with you on our website. Thanks to those of you who stopped by.

New AmeriCorps Members!

We are excited to announce that we have two new faces joining our team! Kordiea Rerick will be with us through August. She is a West Fargo native and is studying Political Science at South Dakota State University. Hope Theede will be working with us through October. She is studying Political Science and Philosophy at North Dakota State University.

Civic News. Who, what, when, where, why, and how?

We are looking for West Fargo residents with journalism in their veins to join our civic journalism project. We envision an advisory board of residents with journalism backgrounds who will set guidelines and train and mentor volunteers, and even do some writing and editing themselves. Eventually we hope to host all stories on our website hub.

Topics could include:

  • Reports of city meetings

  • Feature stories

  • Historical pieces

  • Opinions

  • and more!

Let us know who might help (it could be you!).

The North Dakota Primary Election will take place on June 11, 2024. Voters will have the opportunity to decide which federal and state candidates move on to the general election in November, to elect multiple city officials including two new city commissioners, and to decide whether to adopt a constitutional measure. For more information about what will be on the ballot, where to vote, and more, visit https://www.vote411.org/.
