Get Into the Green Scene

March 13th, 2020

TEDxMSU

We had eight members engage the TED audience on Wednesday evening. Our flyers were handed out to many attendees as they entered the great hall.  Many people stopped to talk and inquire about the Biodome, the enthusiasm level was high and everybody was excited about our project. The TED goers were inquisitive, interested and up beat!  We'd like to Thank TEDxMSU for hosting us, we had a productive sharing and outreach moment with many positive people!

Students for Sustainability and Leadership (SSLC)

This past week our operations group has been working on a piece that will be featured on the SSLC website. It's a great way to get students and other people around MSU involved and an amazing outreach resource. Being connected with other clubs around MSU is very helpful in terms of communication and outreach here on campus!

Flora and Fauna Spotlight

Chocolate Cocoa Plant

Also known as Theobroma cacao, this plant will be a feature within the Biodome. This tree gets to be between 13 and 26 feet tall and is native to the tropical regions of Mesoamerica. This tree produces cocoa beans, which can be used in a variety of ways to make things such as chocolate and cocoa butter. The climate in the Biodome will make this amazing tree thrive and provide cocoa beans that we can use for other tasty things!

Plan due to COVID-19 Outbreak

How does this affect us?: Since MSU has cancelled face to face classes and the MSU library is closed at 6pm, our normal meeting time is not achievable. As of right now, minimizing face to face interactions is the best way to stay safe. Given this we will not be meeting in person until MSU establishes that it is okay to have face to face classes again.

What are we going to do about it?: The plan is to hold online meetings through zoom where we can still work together remotely and achieve our semester goals.
