ATTENDANCE UPDATE Please be advised: Under the Every Student Succeeds Act, Maryland defines chronic absenteeism as missing 10% or more of the school year. Students that are absent more than 18 days that aren’t related to school activities or events are considered chronically absent. Medically excused and parent excused absences do contribute to the count. Please understand that at Snow Hill High School we work hard to maintain accurate records and intervene prior to a student accumulating high number of absences. If your child is absent, we will be calling to ensure you are aware and to see if we can help. As graduation requirements and standards of learning become increasingly more rigorous, we find ourselves challenged by the amount of time in the day. When students are absent, gaps form and students have to work very hard to get caught up. Teachers have to fill gaps the best they can while maintaining rigor for all students. This becomes extremely difficult when students aren’t in class. Please contact the school if we can help you improve your son or daughter’s attendance in any way. Thanks for all you do to make Snow Hill High School the special place that it is. |
