Canyoning Recommendations |
Since attendance will be high, we kindly ask you to register daily for canyons proposed by us at the Specialist-Corner at Base Camp, guidance on canyons included. With the registration, we try to avoid jams in canyons as much as possible. The group leader is responsible for the registration, material in the canyon and group skill level and the final GO/NO GO decision on the base of water level, weather forecast, etc. |
For most of the canyons a 60m rope is sufficient. We recommend having at least 1 rope every 2 persons per group in order to make efficient progress. For Sponde, two 110m ropes and for Chignolasc at least one 85m rope are recommended. If this is not possible for you, you may be able to arrange something on site or you may choose among several other beautiful gorges to visit. To reduce potential problems, we suggest taking a rope of minimum three times the length of the highest waterfall in each canyon. |
We will have a list ready at registration for Canyonlanders traveling solo to give you the opportunity to arrange your own groups and visit canyons together. If you are a solo-traveler and don't have a group yet, please let us know when registering. |
- Each participant should be able to survive one night in a canyon. Always bring warm clothing, foil thermal blankets and food with you. Of course, a dry box is also part of the standard equipment.
- Each participant should be able to accomplish rope climbs with their material on their body or in their backpack. If anyone is unable to do so, they must report to the group leader, who has to be informed about the group members' skills.
- Two mobile phones per group should be brought along in case of any rescue situation. These are also required for deregistration from the RIC after completion of a canyon.
- At least one first-aid kit per group (painkillers, sam splint, bandages, etc.) Is required.
