2 Year Anniversary!

 

We will be celebrating our Second Anniversary on December 2nd! 

 

We would like to honor the people that inspired us to sew, knit, crochet, embroider, whatever your fiber craft.  Please help us by bringing in or sending us a picture, a statement or both of the special person who inspired you, before November 29th.  These will then be posted in our store or used in our newsletter to commemorate them.

We're so excited to take part in the Mini Maker Faire!  This will be our 3rd time at this fantastic event.  We will have sewing demonstrations, and hands on participation with sewing machines.  Be sure to stop by and say hi!

REACH Advocacy

 

There are great ways to give back to the community.  Volunteers at SewGreen were busy sewing curtains for REACH Advocacy.  Please visit their website for more information about ways to volunteer or donate.

Their Mission - REACH Advocacy advocates for and with chronically homeless persons in the Rochester, NY area, seeing that all are treated with dignity and respect.  REACH Advocacy collaborates to create safe, financially sustainable, housing options to meet the needs of chronically homeless individuals by ensuring services needed and encouraging mutual care.

The Create with Josefina Class started today!  Here are a few more pictures of her work to get your creative juices flowing.

This cowl was made using the hairpin lace loom.  Learn how to use this tool on Mondays in November!

Monday Macramé!

 

We had a great time with our Macramé classes on Monday!

 

We used different kinds of yarn, and twine, as well as some wooden beads to finish these fun projects.

 

The plant hangers turned out great and we'll definitely offer this again in the new year!

 

 

Upcoming Classes & Events

Create with Josefina
Love working with Josefina? So do we. Come and create something with her! Thursday, November 16 and 30,  4 to 6 p.m.  Bring your ideas, join your creativity with hers, and make something new!

 

Hand-Knotted Prayer / Meditation Beads 
Did you know that regular contemplative prayer and meditation can change your brain? Researchers are still figuring out how, but the benefits are good!  On Friday, November 17, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 4 to 6 p.m. and on Saturday, November 25, 2 to 4:00 p.m. join us as we use nylon cording to create a couple different varieties of prayer/meditation beads. Suitable for any faith, stringed beads make excellent tools for centering and meditative practices.

 

Mini Maker Faire Rochester at the Riverside Convention Center

Hairpin Lace Loom

with Joanna
Learn how to use the hairpin lace loom with Joanna!  This was said to be invented in the 16th century by Catherine of Aragon.  You’ll see how to use yarn or crochet cotton to make strips of this lace as well as how to piece them together.
Offered Mon, November 20 and 27 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. or 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.

 

Working with Dress Forms
Learn how padding a dress form can help you put together outfits and understand the fit of your clothing. Professional measurements will be included. 
Tuesday, November 21, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 4 to 6 p.m.

3rd Annual Green Friday 
Tired of crazy black Friday shopping? Come and experience a relaxing day with your family making gifts the old-fashioned way.  We set up stations with projects appropriate for ages 5 & up from simple woven mug rugs to hand-sewn felt ornaments, crocheted bracelets, or bead animals.  For the more adventurous interested in sewing machines- pillows,  small zipper purses or tote bags.  Bring your favorite cookies to share.  Beverages available.  Attend Friday, November 24, 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

 

Rub-off a Pattern -

Parts 1 & 2
Do you have a garment that you love to wear?  It's the perfect fit, or drape, and you just can't find another quite like it?  Don't despair!  You don't have to take it apart to duplicate it.  Bring it in, and we will help you recreate it without tearing apart your favorite piece of clothing.  This class will be taught in two parts: Tuesday, November 28 & December 5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 4 to 6 p.m.

Sewing Machine 101
Make friends with a sewing machine in our shop, or bring yours from home. We will take you through the basics of machine operation and safety, and guide you toward sewing a project.
This class is great for ages 10 & up
(or younger with an adult present).
Offered Fri, December 1, 11:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. or 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. and Tue, December 12
​11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. or 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.

 

Unless otherwise noted, our two-hour classes are $10 each.

Our back room is overflowing with your generous donations. Thank you!

However, until we have the chaos organized, we are limiting donations deliveries to Tuesdays 2 to 6 p.m., Fridays 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Saturdays 1 to 3 p.m.

Remember...

Every Saturday is Scrappy Saturday! Our small scrappy bags stuffed with scraps and rolls of fabric and/or unmarked balls of yarn are only $1 all day (regularly $3 on weekdays). Bring your own grocery-sized tote and stuff it full for only $5 (regularly $10). Stop by and fill a bag this Saturday, and every Saturday!

 

Join us on our Monday Mindful Walks from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Walk with us every Monday morning through our beautiful, historic Susan B. Anthony Neighborhood. Come along and see the architecture, the public artworks, the trees and gardens, and say hello with us to any of our neighbors who might be out and about.
