Potent Reinforcers

The success of reinforcement procedures depends on the effectiveness of reinforcers used. Some types of reinforcers come in the forms of food, toys, social interaction, praise and activities. Important factors to consider when choosing a reinforcer are how desirable the reinforcer is and the learners reinforcer preferences. Informal and formal are two types of methods used when choosing reinforcers for learners. Below is a table that outlines the two types of methods.

Spotlight

Melissa Quiros, BCBA

Melissa is a BCBA at Rainbow ABA that lived and volunteered on a horse ranch in New Zealand for a year after high school! Melissa's favorite thing about Rainbow is that she loves being part of a team that is supportive, fun-loving, and truly compassionate towards everyone that's a part of the organization.

Her best advice for BCBA candidates is to "Be inquisitive! There are no "dumb" questions and being curious about our field and unafraid to ask questions is what will help you gain all the skills and knowledge you need to be a wonderful behavior analyst. Believe in yourself!"

Monica Pellino, BCBA

Monica has been a BCBA with Rainbow ABA for almost a year. Her favorite part of working at Rainbow is being able to talk with other BCBAs who have a plethora of different backgrounds and experiences. Monica's best advice for BCBA candidates is to "always push yourself to learn things outside of coursework! Talk to BCBAs in the field, ask lots of questions, and try to get involved as much as possible."

In her spare time Monica enjoys DIY projects. She loves clothing and furniture restoration as well as thrifting.
