NEWS FROM DR. REID

Dear St. Patrick Families,

It has been a great week of academic and spiritual learning. Earlier this week I visited 2B and they were creating lanterns. When I asked the students why they were creating lanterns, a student referenced the homily given by Fr. Roux during Friday’s Mass and stated, “it’s a symbol that Jesus is present, you have to have oil in the lantern to be prepared and you have to keep your light burning until Jesus returns. God is the Light.”

There was a terrific turn-out of families and faculty at the Back to School picnic. It was wonderful seeing everyone. Thank you for spending your dinner time at school!

Back to School Night is Wednesday, September 7th from 6:30-8:00pm. We will start in the gym at 6:30pm and transition to the classrooms by 7:00pm. See below for more details.

Remember to represent St. Patrick at the Charlotte Catholic High School Tailgate on Friday, September 2nd at 5pm. Go Cougars!

For your information, the surrounding neighborhood will have construction as a new phase of traffic control is being installed. However, we were informed that the construction will not affect our carpool process.

I hope you have a Happy and Safe Labor Day weekend.

Blessings,

Dr. Alicia Reid

WALKER DISMISSAL PROCEDURE

If your child will be a walker this year at any point, be sure to select "walker" as one of the options on our Online Form (below).  This form states that your family must live within walking distance of the school (no more than 1 mile away) and as parents you understand that your child will be escorted out of the building and expected to walk home without supervision. For safety reasons we will not allow students to be walkers if you do not live within a reasonable walking distance of the school, no more than one mile.

Walkers will still continue to enter the gym in the morning as in years past. In the afternoon, walkers will be released out the door nearest the first grade classrooms which exits near the Family Life Center. A staff member will walk students to the Family Life Center area at which point they will continue to walk home.  If a parent will meet the child to walk with them, they should plan to meet their child on the sidewalk between the church rectory and the Family Life Center. Families will not be permitted to play on the playground after school due to carpool traffic.  Parking is not permitted in the rectory parking lot under any circumstance.

BIRTHDAY TREATS

Students are permitted to bring in store-bought (not homemade) treats to celebrate their birthdays with their class during lunch. Families have the option to purchase ice cream from the cafeteria for the birthday boy/girl and/or for the whole class to celebrate a birthday. Ice cream orders must be placed with Mrs. Loeber, the cafeteria manager, at least one week prior to the date to ensure enough ice cream is available for the class to participate. Mrs. Loeber can be reached via email at ejloeber@stpatrickschool.net.
