Dear CCCHS Members, Please note our February meeting has moved to a VIRTUAL option. We hope you will be able to join us on the Zoom link below. It is our intent to move forward with an in-person March Membership Meeting with a strong focus on networking and collaboration. Please feel free to invite a colleague or friend who isn’t already a member to join us for the March meeting. It may be a little too cold outside to think about birds and springtime, but for CCCHS and membership, now is the time to take advantage of our EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT. Membership dues for organizations will be $60 until the end of February. Then, the price will jump to $65. So think spring and get those dues in today. For the second year in the row, the Centre Country Super Fair will look a little different. Rather than an in-person event, the focus will be on a community resource guide printed by The Gazette. If you would like your organization to be included in this year’s Guide, please complete the free form by March. You can learn more about this year’s project and complete your free listing at https://www.theccchs.org/superfair. So, as the cold temps and rising COVID numbers keep us at our desks these next few weeks, please take a few minutes to visit our website to complete your membership application and Super Guide listing! We’ll see you Wednesday via zoom. Stay warm and healthy! Melissa Bottorf CCCHS President PA Link to ADRC |

Free N95 masks are coming to Pennsylvania, here’s where you can find them By Keely Doll, Centre Daily Times Updated January 26, 2022 4:42 PM |
Are you looking for free N95 masks? The federal government is sending more than 400 million masks to health centers and pharmacies across the country. The masks will come from the Strategic National Stockpile and are limited to three per person. N95 masks offer better protection against the COVID-19 virus and have been both expensive and hard to find. Where can I find free masks in Centre County? Starting next week, many national and local pharmacies will be distributing masks. The N95s will be distributed by pharmacies through the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program, which included Walgreens, Rite Aid and CVS. Rite Aid, on North Atherton, will have masks at the front entrance and the pharmacy once the shipment comes in. Pharmacies inside of grocery chains Weis, Wegmans and Giant will also be a part of this program. A complete list of pharmacies in the federal program can be found on the CDC’s website... |

Why Might KinshipCare Families in Pennsylvania Go to a Support Group? |
The challenges faced by Pennsylvania kinship caregivers can be physically and emotionally overwhelming. Older caregivers are frequently stressed and may experience a sense of isolation as they watch their peers participate in adult activities. Support groups are ways for kinship care families to assist one another. The groups tend to offer social and emotional support for members by providing advice and understanding. Some support groups also take on a proactive and political component, as they work toward making improvements in local or state policies. |
Support groups can be very beneficial to Pennsylvania families because: They have been shown to help reduce caregivers’ stress and improve health, resulting in greater physical and emotional stability for caregivers. Many caregivers in support groups express the idea that just knowing there are others in the same situation is very helpful. When caregivers’ needs are met, they can fully focus on the best interests of the children in their care and create a safer, more stable, and consistent living environment for children. Those who are new to this challenging role receive a sense of social validation for their efforts to deal with issues that many of their friends and colleagues do not understand.
