Tin Wis - Calm Waters
"Fall Closure mode activated"
"Operation Road Tour underway"
Coming to you from Tofino on Vancouver Island where the sky is clear and the temperature is pleasant. After several days of fabulous fall colours and terrific temperatures in Kimberley, it was time for Operation Road Tour to commence. Objectives: relaxation, adventure, good food, art, and fun.
Adventure started straight away on the campground with two uncomfortably close encounters with The Black Bear Bully. "Bully Block mode activated". "Operation Bully Buster - FAILED". We spend the first night of our camping trip at The Prestige.
A couple highlights so far are the gorgeous sunset pictured above and the art exhibition of the Salt Spring National Art Prize on Salt Spring Island. I'm very pleased to have been able to enjoy up close and personal the amazing artworks in this biennial competition and exhibition of Canadian visual art - one of Canada’s largest celebrations of contemporary art. Some favourites are: "The Open Window" by Norman Busse, "An Hour of Silence for Leonora" by Tammy Salzl, "Lana" by Jennifer Globush, and "Crusty, but Compelling" by Daniel Labutes.
Coming up in three weeks is the annual Christmas Art Market. Seven local artists will be having their creations for sale in the art exhibition space. In addition, other artists will be adding all kinds of items to their collection, and Erin over at Huckleberry Books has a great selection of books ready to hit the shelves in the gift shop. This is all very exciting, but wait! There's more! Get ready to join us, several (local) artists, and Bohemian Spirits at the opening reception on Saturday, November 18th between 7 and 9 pm. We'll have Virgin Mary Gin Cocktails, food, music, and good cheer! Oh, and remember Michele Doucette's community painting that we helped her create a background for during her live painting demonstrations in July? She finished the painting and it will be on display in the gallery during the reception. But wait! There's more! As a thank you for those who embraced their creativity that day, a delightful surprise awaits.
Also coming up, but in February of 2024 is the second annual exhibition celebrating fine arts and The Kootenay's, and this time the theme is "Kootenay Creatures". I'm calling all artists to start creating some amazing artworks to enter into this competition. More information and entry form available NOW.
One more thing I would like to mention is our wonderful neighbours' Kimberley Volunteer Ski Patrol Fundraiser. A print of Van Colden's artwork "The Safe Keepers" on a Bula Neck Tube is now available at Black Dog Cycle & Ski. Black Dog will be donating $2 of the sale of each buff to the Kimberley Volunteer Ski Patrol, and $2 will go to the artist.
Looking forward to opening the gallery doors for the holiday season on November 18th. See you there!
