Oh My, Reasons to Love Goats!

COME VISIT US AT OUR SPRING OPEN HOUSE - APRIL 30TH!

GOATS ARE AMAZING!

Goats are extremely friendly, they wag their tails, respond to their names, and form strong bonds with peers and people.

Like most farmed animals, goats display the ability to understand and respond to human communication using eye contact, gestures and body language, just like your pets.

Goats will seek help from others when they can't solve a problem on their own.

They are herd animals and become depressed if left without any goat companions.

When happy or excited, goats point their ears forward and their tails up high.

They are affectionate, sensitive and smart.

They use their previous experience to make future decisions.

Goats can live up to 18 years if given the chance.

We currently have 16 rescued goats at Harmony Farm Sanctuary. Their names are Charlotte, Houdini, Bob, Hazel, Isabel, Shadow, Lulu, Sampson, Delilah, Ophella, Jane, Juniper, Vincent Van Goat, Petra, Buck and our newest rescue, Rose!

Our goats have the freedom to roam, form friendships with other goats and farm animals. They jump and play on structures, receive treats and head scratches from the volunteers and just be goats without having to do anything for anyone but themselves.

We wish all goats in the world lived this life. But the sad reality is goats farmed in America suffer the same cruel existence as other farmed animals. Their life is shortened as most are sent to slaughter within their first year of life. A large number of goats are cruelly slaughtered for halal or kosher meat. Most are kept outside subjecting them to extreme weather. Those raised for milk and cheese production are kept continuously pregnant with newborns taken away to ensure their milk is saved for human consumption or products like goat milk soap or lotion. And kid goats are subjected to torturous procedures such as disbudding and castration. Mostly done with no pain medication.

Please consider leaving goats off your plate, out of your fridge and off your bathroom shelf.

Meet Our Newest Rescue!

This is Rose!

Rose is a 3-4-year-old goat who grew up on a goat farm. Her job was to have babies. Recently she had two babies with severe genetic defects that sadly had to be euthanized:-(

Because of this, she was deemed no longer able to have babies and therefore of no use.  Knowing that her family wouldn't keep her because of this, the young women worked diligently to find her a safe home.

Although we are at capacity right now, we knew we had to help because Rose's life depended on it.

So, we did. Rose spent some time in quarantine and now has a clean bill of health from our vet.

She lives with Charlotte's family and has quickly become besties with Houdini. They love to play together.

Welcome to your forever home, Rose. You are safe and very loved.
