  • Eight countries of the South-West Indian Ocean stepped up their collaboration in the fight against illegal fishing during the meeting of the Extended Regional Coordination Unit (ERCU) of the Regional Fisheries Surveillance Plan (PRSP). This meeting was held on October 21, at the Savoy Seychelles Resort & Spa in Mahé. Read more
  • The inventory of fisheries management plans at national and regional level of partner countries in the South West Indian Ocean region was officially launched on November 23, 2021. The study assesses the needs and gaps in terms of capacity, such as the constraints to the effective operationalization of these management plans. View the concept note
  • The development of a tool to measure progress regarding fisheries monitoring, control and surveillance (MCS) was initiated on November 25th, 2021. Read the Terms of Reference for the:

LTA FAST-TRACKS ITS FIGHT AGAINST IUU FISHING

 

The LTA Conference of Ministers for the Lake Tanganyika Riparian States, held from 13 to 16 December 2021, endorsed the Regional Charter for the Member States of the Lake Tanganyika Authority, providing measures to sustainably manage fisheries in Lake Tanganyika and its basin.

  • The Regional Fisheries Technical Committee met on October 2021 to review a harmonized set of fisheries management measures to reduce IUU fishing in the region. The same committee also reviewed the study on the social-economic impacts of IUU in the region.

LVFO LVFO PUSHES FORWARD TOWARD RESTRUCTURATION

 

E€OFISH is currently supporting a study to ensure greater effectiveness and efficiency of Lake Victoria Fisheries Organisation (LVFO) through institutional restructuring toward an East Africa Fisheries Organisation (EAFO).
