Seed Collecting Efforts

Golden Sands RC&D and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) affiliate employees were hard at work this summer! The annual harvesting of Wild Blue Lupine and Ohio Spiderwort seeds were collected. The seed collecting allows the team to spread seeds for regrowth in the fall.

Through the help of volunteers and partner organizations, 132 lbs. of Lupine and 20 lbs. of Ohio Spiderwort was harvested!

Fall Bird Feeding Tips

During fall, birds are either migrating or getting ready to, and they're searching for food to fuel them. Look for bird seed mixes with nutrient-dense ingredients like black oil sunflower seeds, safflower seeds, and peanuts. With the right bird feeder, suet can be great for autumn bird-feeding. Birds can then pick it apart to build up their own fat reserves. While many suet cakes can spoil in warm weather, they’re perfect for fall and winter feeding.
