Kharássō,

“I scratch, engrave”

Words by Becca

Curiosities surrounding the art of reinvention have fluttered their wings around the clockface in my house over the last few weeks. Dancing between the old, the new and the yet to be discovered whilst leaving gaps in their flutter-paths to be filled with answers when the time is right.

How long does someone or something have to behave ‘out of character’ for, before their character is no more? How many stages of evolution does one have to experience before they are considered different to what they once were? When does the caterpillar realise it will fly?

Derived from the Greek word Kharássō, meaning “I scratch, engrave”, ‘character’, the word, is built upon foundations of mark-making and leaving imprints. Perhaps that is why acting ‘out of character’ can be unsettling and sometimes even exciting; for the engravings are changing, transforming into something unknown. Maybe occasionally acting a little bit ‘out of character’ is the very thing that is required for us to step into truly who we are. Etched upon this land, this Earth, this life and upon the hearts of others are the engravings of the essences of our very own ever-evolving ‘characters’.

When was the last time you danced in the puddles of reinvention? Or flirted with the winds of identity? What is it, that is calling you from afar across the shores and lands of the dreaming, to pick up the engraver and make a new mark, a new scratch in the land in which you walk?

What is it that is calling for your ‘out of character’ self? And, most importantly... are you listening?

Summer Season

Dare we say that Summer is finally here?!

We had a gorgeous time celebrating at our Solstice Dance - thank you to everyone who came along, it really kickstarted the summer!

We are now in the midst of a pause from regular dance journeys whilst we dance with the height of summer...Dance Journeys restart in September - bookings for these are now open.

Dragon Fest 2024

It was so wonderful to see so many dancers at Dragon Fest at West Stow Anglo Saxon Village a couple of weekends ago... The Healing Space is really growing and we urge anyone to check it out next year! There are wonderful offerings including 1:1 bodywork, red tent, tarot readings, incense blending workshops, yoga, sound baths, family song circles... and much more!

Thanks all!

Elements of Dance Youth

Sat 17th Aug 2024 / 4pm - 7pm

Holding a dance for our younger community has been on our radar for a long time. We will be running a youth pilot event in August to test the dancing waters!

We were initially intending for this event to be for children aged 8 - 13, however, if your child/someone you know would be interested in this and they are not in this age bracket, please still get in touch! Rather than fully advertising this event, we want to offer this into our immediate community for dancers to register their interest for any younger folk this might grab the attention of.

The event itself will be of very similar format to our regular dances and will be woven in with a deeper story element, light-hearted games and movement, and a chance to share amongst the group around a fire.

If you know of any younger folk who may be interested in this, please register below and we will be in touch in the coming weeks with more information. Please note, we will need a minimum number of dancers in order for the event to go ahead - we trust this invitation will land in the laps of those desperate to dance!

REGISTER MY INTEREST

Eyes On...

Do keep your eyes peeled over the next couple of months. Although our Story Dances are on pause, we may have an August gathering/dance with space and time for a sharing circle - this might be at Clophill or West Stow... Keep your eyes peeled!

July Inspiration

Our homepage has been updated for 'July' and this month's inspiration has come through Becca.

The beauty of music and songs is that we will always interpret them depending on how our individual lives unfold with them.

Nessi Gomez - Morning Mirrors

Love this song! Such a good song to get moving to in the mornings... Nessi Gomez is a fab artist.

Ane Brun - All My Tears

I am so, so pleased I discovered this song a few weeks ago... There are not many words to describe the beauty of this song - just tears, beautiful tears!

Let Us Sing of the Syncretic Gods of Outcasts and Wanderers

"The story of human ritual and cultural tradition is one of depth and deep connection to land, to place, and to processes and protocols that remain steady across generations. But it's also a story of constant mutation, assimilation, and re-expression..."

We are big fans of The Emerald Podcast at EOD - this episode in particular struck gold within me (Becca)... I have listened to it 5 times and counting!

I can't recommend it enough.
