Vata what?

Hello all!

I just got back from a wonderful day retreat up in New York State at a farm, which was just what this mama needed! I ended up spending the day with other women, mostly moms, who just needed some self-care time to reset and connect with nature. I am so grateful for the safe space we were welcomed into, where we were able to share our experiences with no judgment, just love!

We started with an opening ceremony and meditation, where we shared all that we were called to shed and what we wanted to bring more of into our lives. Everyone was so beautifully raw and vulnerable, and that alone was worth the 3-hour drive.

After this, my favorite part came when we rode in a side by side in the rain, riffing back and forth using the Kylego exercise to bring our manifestations to life in the present moment. We pulled up to this peaceful brook, and just as we got there, the rain stopped, just in time for us to experience mantra in nature with a quiet mind, which was just....😌 AMAZINGLY PEACEFUL!

During Vata hour, we nourished our bodies with a grounding meal on the porch, overlooking the peaks of the Vermont mountains through the rain. We ended our day with a hilarious yet active game of farm Olympics!

This weekend was a nice reminder to take time for ourselves, even if it's just a couple of minutes to journal what we want to shed and what we want to shift, or taking a moment to quiet the mind and connect to nature to remember who we are. We can also play, laugh, and have some fun just for fun's sake, or nourish our bodies with the food we eat. I've shared some tips below about caring for ourselves during Vata season, or you can reach out to me for more tips based on your unique energetics!

Vata Season and Parenthood

Vata season, which falls during autumn and early winter in Ayurvedic medicine, can be a challenging time for mothers. Vata is characterized by qualities such as dryness, coldness, and movement, which can lead to imbalances in the body and mind if not addressed.

For caregivers, this can manifest as increased stress, anxiety, and fatigue. It is important during this time to prioritize self-care and nourishment. This can include staying warm, eating warm, nourishing foods, and getting plenty of rest. Ayurvedic practices such as abhyanga (self-massage with warm oil) and gentle yoga can also be helpful in balancing Vata.

In addition to physical self-care, it is important to also prioritize emotional self-care. This can include setting boundaries, seeking support from loved ones or a therapist, and taking time for activities that bring joy and relaxation. By taking care of ourselves during Vata season, we can better care for our families and navigate the challenges that come with parenthood.
