Culturally Responsive Practice: Working with young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds. Explore the essential skills and knowledge required for effective work with young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds. This in-depth training explores the essential skills and knowledge required for effective work with young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds. The training modules are designed to be applicable across a broad range of sectors and for work with young people from any community. Participants will improve their confidence and capacity to provide a culturally inclusive and responsive service for young people. The training program includes two modules: Culturally Responsive Practice and Young People and Settlement. The CaLD LGBTIQ+ Support Group The LGBTIQ+ Support Group for people from a migrant or refugee background meets online every first Wednesday of the month. This group supports same sex attracted and gender diverse people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to discuss their mental health and wellbeing and develop a strong sense of belonging in the community. Often, gender and/or sexually diverse identities can engender conflict with cultural norms, doctrinal positions and family expectations and relationships. This group creates a safe space for individuals to talk through, share stories and offer reflections on intersectional and complex issues surrounding relationships, cultural traditions, and identity. Mental health support for culturally diverse communities Culturally Diverse Psychological Service – Life Without Barriers The Culturally Diverse Psychological Service provides short-term culturally appropriate and evidence based psychological counselling for Medicare card holders. The service is free and confidential and is available throughout the Perth metro area. You will be required to visit a GP to obtain a referral prior to your first session. Mental Health Access Service – Multicultural Futures The Mental Health Access Service have confirmed they have capacity to assist new clients from the Ukrainian community, and are happy for individuals to self-refer. Multicultural Futures’ services are for people from a migrant or refugee background across the Perth metropolitan area. They recommend any interested individuals check the website to speak to a Mental Health Advocate in their local area (as they operate all over Perth). MAITRI Mental Health Services – Multicultural Services Centre MAITRI professional mental health assessment, treatment and management; culturally and linguistically appropriate counselling; psycho-education and psychosocial intervention. Their services can be delivered in the client’s preferred language, or with the assistance of interpreters. Individuals can self-refer using the referral form available on the website. |

National Coronavirus Helpline – CaLD priority service A priority service within the National Coronavirus Helpline has been established to ensure culturally and linguistically diverse people have access to relevant information and assistance with finding vaccine appointments. Helpline call agents can provide COVID-19 information and help callers book their vaccination appointment. Translated resources can be sent to callers after the call by SMS in their language. Culturally and linguistically diverse people seeking to access this service should contact Translating and Interpreting Services (TIS) National on 131 450 and ask to be connected to the National Coronavirus Helpline. COVID health resources for WA's CaLD communities WA Health has developed a range of video and social media tiles to promote COVID-safe behaviours and COVID vaccination to WA’s CALD communities. The resources feature WA healthcare workers and community leaders delivering COVID health messaging in English and in other languages. The videos are available on the DoH Youtube channel. The social media tiles and other resources are available on the Health WA website. |

The Diverse Women’s Leadership Program The next Diverse Women’s Leadership Program starts 2 August 2022 and is designed to enhance the confidence, leadership capability and networks of an inclusive group of women in a caring and supportive environment. The Diverse Women’s Leadership Program is looking for women aged 18 – 55 years from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds who have a strong desire to build their confidence by completing the program activities and challenges, are keen to meet new people and strengthen their network, and can attend all session dates. ASeTTS Job Opportunity: Bicultural Programme Support Worker ASeTTS is hiring four candidates to become bicultural programme support workers. This role supports the ASeTTS' Community Development Team and is responsible for providing practical support to ensure newly arrived Afghan community members have a positive and empowering experience with ASeTTS. This includes supporting group participants to: - develop meaningful relationships and connections with each other and with ASeTTS staff and external providers,
- connect with health and other relevant services,
- strengthen their skills and confidence, and
- improve their sense of belonging in the community.
This position may be required to work with individual adults, children, and young people as well as groups, families, and communities, who are in the process of transitioning from war, conflict, and violence into settlement and safety. |

OMI Leadership and Governance Program Applications for the 2022 Leadership and Governance Program are now open. The purpose of the program is to encourage greater representation of culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) people on public, private or not-for-profit (NFP) sector boards and committees. The program will commence in October 2022. The program is made up of three components: - the Diversifying boards — Your cultural advantage: A guide to pursuing a board role publication
- a leadership and governance training program based on the Diversifying boards guide
- a mentoring program to support mentees.

Fostering Integration Grant program 2022 Now Open Does your organisation have an idea for a project to build cohesive, resilient communities by supporting integration and participation of multicultural communities and migrants? Round Three of the Fostering Integration Grants program is open for applications. Grants of between $15,000 and $100,000 will be available for integration and capacity building projects, including community events such as festivals. Grants of between $20,000 and $100,000 will be available to support projects that enhance existing community spaces and amenities through fit out, extension or upgrades. It is a free tailored e-learning resource designed to support migrant and refugee women in managing their finances. The course is available in English, Arabic, Simplified Chinese, Hazaragi, Karen, Vietnamese, Thai, Punjabi, Nepali, Korean and Dari and covers: financial systems, earning an income, budgeting, money relationships. |
