Hello, People's Campaign!

Today we honor and acknowledge the full life and death of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. King was less interested in service and more interested in holding or government and our peers accountable in order to eradicate racism and render poverty obsolete. He helped organize the Poor People's Campaign to call attention to various injustices created by the privileged and wealthy. He believed through direct action, political education and the mobilization of communities, transformation and equality can be a shared and viable reality.

And it is in the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we gather in community, struggle and solidarity with the needs of the 2nd Ward, and greater Evanston.

Ensuring Darlene’s seat on the council directly affects the lives of all Evanston residents. We all deserve an Alderwoman that will prioritize the well being of 2nd Ward residents. We need an Alderwoman who will use a racial equity lens when voting on decisions that impact the ward as well as the entire city.

Darlene has spent her entire life in the 2nd Ward and is committed to this community. She has spent her entire life organizing, in direct-service and caring for others, in both professional and intracommunal settings. Her labor and analysis, in conjunction with the support of the residents, has the potential to transform lives across the ward for years to come.

This election is worth fighting for.

As we know, forward movements can bring about resistance and progress can be undone. Now is the time to get involved, resist inequalities, and build in your immediate communities the sort of common grounds that cultivate the promise of equity. When we fight together, we win!

What the people want is simple.

They want an America as good as its promise.
