CLIPS FROM MUSEUM OF FLIGHT

A few months back we were lucky enough to have a screening at the Museum of Flight in Seattle.  Not only did we have Hollywood actor Michael Cudlitz in attendance (Michael starred in the HBO series Band of Brothers and narrated Return to Hardwick) but we also had B-17 pilot Dick Nelms in attendance.  It really made the afternoon special.  Please see a few clips from that day below.

SCREENING IN SOCAL

What a great screening at the Planes of Fame museum in Chino, CA!  The 93rd Bomb Group and I had made initial contact with the museum to get a screening at some point this year.  What really put it into full-gear was 93rd second-generation member Bruce Spencer and his family.

Director Michael Sellers with 93rd veteran Leland Spencer

Bruce's father, Leland Spencer was a pilot in the 93rd.  I was lucky enough to stay at Bruce's home and visit with Leland.  This screening was setup in Leland's honor.  What a treat to sit in their living room the evening before and talk to Leland about the war and what he's up to today.  At 97 he's still getting around great and I admire his energy for life and seeing him spend time with his family.

Great turn out at the Planes of Fame museum in Chino, CA.

Our contact at the Planes of Fame museum was Harry Geier.  Harry was very accommodating and made the screening go smoothly.  We had about 150 people attend, including Leland Spencer who - for those that don't know yet - is in the film along with his family.  The Spencers attended the 2015 reunion to Hardwick which is featured in the film.

(From L to R) Joe Duran, Phyllis Duran, Jim Root, Leland Spencer, Bruce Spencer and Michael Sellers.  All 93rd members and attended the screening at Planes of Fame.

Fortunate enough to meet William H. Pesky Pescosolido. He brought his father’s original A-2 jacket.  The 93rd was called "Ted's Flying Circus" early in the war.

BACKYARD BROOKLYN

Yes!  I didn't need to jump in a plane or drive hundreds of miles to attend the screening at Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn, NYC.  I took the subway two stops from my home and I was there!  I set up this screening to give friends, family, crew and any other warm bodies I have been annoying - a chance to see what I have been working on.

Nicole Gilliam checks in people at Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn, NYC.  Nicole has helped with 93rd events in the past and has become super supportive.

If you haven't experienced movies at Alamo Drafthouse yet it can be a fun time.  It does come at a premium.  They offer food and drinks and top quality seats, sound and picture (you can reserve your seats).  Booking an event there too comes at a premium but well worth it if you want to get everyone together in the best screening environment possible.  I had reserved a 75 seat theater and filled 70 of those seats.  I was very happy that everyone could attend.

Great turn out at the Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn, NYC

The Kline family attended the screening at Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn.  Their relative, John B. Kline served in the 93rd Bomb Group.

At the screening we had four different families whose relatives served in the 93rd Bomb Group!  It was a really great time talking to them and it made the screening that much more of a special event.  I know co-workers and friends commented later to me that it made their day to know those families were there and watching the film with them.

It was great to have friends come and watch!

Nice to gather for drinks downstairs after the screening

RETURN TO HARDWICK

 SYNOPSIS

The 93rd Bomb Group was the most decorated, most traveled and most effective bomb group of WWII.  Helping to cripple Hitler's Europe from the air, they executed some of the most daring bombing raids of the war.  Along with the group's rich history - sons, daughters and grandchildren travel to England and explore the 93rd's long forgotten airbase - Hardwick Aerodrome 104.
