And just like that, we are transitioning into fall, in nature as well as in the gallery. I LOVE this time of year! The golden canvases in Helen Geddes' body of work entitled "The Goldbird Variations" - part of this month's art exhibition - make me think of our area's best kept secret: mountains of easily accessible golden larch.
Coming up is a new collaboration I'm working on with the fabulous Erin from Huckleberry Books and it is pretty exciting. Exciting for those of you that like to read, LOVE books, and support your local independent bookstore AND your local art gallery. Soon you will be able to purchase your favourite books from Huckleberry Books in Cranbrook at the gallery in Kimberley. Let us know what books you would like to buy!
Although it is very early to be mentioning the C-word, I have been working on our upcoming Christmas Art Market for a while now. Come November 20th, the gallery will be chock full of original fine art, giclées/digital prints, wreaths, ornaments, art cards, gem soaps, pottery, poetry, notebooks, homewares, wearables, books and more.
Our fall closure will give me time to prepare for the Christmas season as well as allow for a nice break. I'm looking forward to a road trip to Vancouver Island and a visit to "Reclaim + Repair: The Mahogany Project" at the Museum of Vancouver, as well as to the art exhibitions of the Salt Spring National Art Prize and the Parallel Art Show on Salt Spring Island.
Something else that has been on my mind lately is the open art exhibition coming up in February of 2024. This will be the second annual exhibition celebrating fine arts and The Kootenay's, and this time the theme is "Kootenay Creatures". I'm calling all artists to start thinking about creating some amazing artworks to enter into this competition. More information to follow later this month.
One last thing I would like to point out is Kimberley's Art and Little Library Tour map created by Jim Webster. Kudos to Jim for all he does for the community. Follow the link to check out the map and share it with your family and friends.
Looking forward to seeing you at the gallery soon!
