May 2023

Hello Kainaatis!

We want to keep you updated about some of the ongoing activities in the Kainaati universe. Our first video in collaboration with the International Astronomical Union (IAU) will be released this month. It will be in Urdu (for
Kainaat Urdu) and in English (for Kainaat English). So please keep an eye out for that. In addition, we are concluding our 10-part series of Kainaat Kids videos, with the last one coming out at the end of May. These activities are also highlighted in the Kainaat Studios video below. But please also check out a special two-part Kainaati Gup Shup on the origins of life. Also, as a treat for the beginning of May, some of Earth's shadow will fall on the Moon on May 5th, leading to a slight darkening of the Full Moon starting at 9pm Pakistan time. You will have to pay attention to it, as it is easy to miss what astronomers call a penumbral lunar eclipse. Happy May!

A very thin crescent Moon, Venus, bright stars, star clusters and constellations - Mian Mateen from Lahore captures this all-in-one shot of the sky just after sunset. Part of the departing Orion constellation can be seen on the left. The bright white object on the right is Venus. To its left is a V-shaped group of stars, known as the Hyades cluster. To the bottom right of Venus is the famous seven sisters or Pleiades star cluster. If you look at the very bottom right corner, the crescent Moon is tucked between two buildings!
