This quarter was a very enriching experience for the Simply Sport team. We wrote research reports on topics like menstruation and athlete career transition. We impacted 300 and more athletes and coaches through our menstruation program and forged a solid partnership with Padukone Sports Management. We also did our first sports science program in psychology to raise awareness and increase accessibility for young athletes right at the beginning of their sporting journeys. Continuing on our association with the Sports Authority of India (SAI), we supported the enhancements of the Khelo India playfield repository along with supporting Bangalore SAI NCOE with sports science trainers (S&C, Physios & Yoga). A football coaching program for 15 inspiring girls in Jharkhand was truly special and our guest writers informed us with their knowledge and expertise. All in all an exciting and a quarter filled with loads of learning. Read on to know more! |

Community Development Program |

|
In this quarter we were able to start our first intervention with Aahan Foundation in Jharkhand. We were able to mobilise a 8 day football coaching program to help 15 girls in Aahan to start their football journey. We were able to do a baseline assessment of the girls to assess their football skills and physical skills. This will be followed by online intervention through our coach to help girls with enhancing their skills and overall physical strength. An offline intervention is planned in the next quarter where stage 2 of the program will be implemented. We have also onboarded a new partnership with Rotary Club of Pune (3131) wherein we will be working with one community in the Pune district and developing grassroot programs for the youth there. |

We conducted workshops in the Khelo India Youth Games in Bangalore, SAI Bangalore NCOE, and Padukone Dravid Center in Bangalore. It was encouraging to see that some of the most premium institutes in the country have taken notice of our program and acknowledged the importance of the subject. We were also able to forge a partnership with Padukone Sports Management to become their knowledge partners in menstruation and sports for their Beginners Coaches Certification Program. Our workshop now will be an integral part of their curriculum. We have also finished writing our first study to understand the effect of the menstrual cycles on athlete training and performance. This study will help us launch a larger study in the Phase 2 part of our ongoing research in the subject. We will be publishing the study in the early next quarter. |

We have partnered with and invested in the Grand Prix Badminton League held by the Karnataka Badminton Association. Our founder Ankit Nagori and Ashwini Ponaappa are owners of the Kodagu Tigers and Simply Sport will be actively involved in the volunteer management, fan engagement and sports science workshops. |

The Athlete Career Development Program |
|
|
We have finished writing the first-of-its-kind research report on athlete career transition in India. We will be releasing this report in the next quarter, and also launching our Version 2 of the Athlete Career Development Program. We hope that the recommendations made in this report will help policy makers and important stakeholders in the sports ecosystem to bring tangible changes in the path of holistic athlete development and athlete career transitions. |

Women in Sport Research with SAI |
|
|
We have completed all the data collection on the ‘Women Participation in SAI ecosystem’ research project. Our team is now working on collation of data, analyzing the data and writing the final report. We aim to release our report on 15th August. |

We have enabled long term support to SAI Bangalore in the area of sports science by providing two physiotherapists and two Strength and Conditioning trainers. This also includes the training national camp athletes preparing for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

We launched our first sports science program in sports psychology on the topic ‘ The art of managing emotions and winning’ with psychologist Manal Bole. The workshop boasted of impacting 50 athletes in the age group of 9-18years of age. The workshop also had athletes from various sports disciplines including Wushu, Badminton, Athletics , Fencing etc. and came from states like Kerala, Manipur, Bihar, Maharashtra and Karnataka. It was an enriching experience both for the athletes and the Simply Sport team. |

We conducted 2-day sports science workshop for sports enthusiasts at the Khelo India University Games 2022 held at Bangalore. Sports science sessions included - “Introduction to S&C” & “Menstruation & Sports”. |

Sessions on the occasion of World Menstrual Hygiene day 2022 |

|
On the occassion of World Menstural Hygiene day 2022, we conducted physical workshops at Center for Sports Excellence (CSE) and Sports Authority of India Bangalore. Through the workshops were able to raise awareness on the topic to more than 200 athletes and coaches. |

International Yoga Day 2022 celebration at SAI Regional center, Bengaluru |

We enabled Yoga Day 2022 celebrations at SAI regional center in Bengaluru by having yoga trainers conduct sessions on 14th May and 21st June where in more than 700 participants comprising of athletes, coaches, administrative officers and bureaucrats attended the sessions. |

On the occasion of International Women’s Day we were joined by Liz Haynes. Liz is the founder and director of Transformational Sports an organisation uses sports to build gender equality. The dicussion with Liz revolved around on Gender and Sports. Liz also provided her experience working with Indian athletes and the overall sports ecosystem. Sports Science seminar for Six Cricket Academy |

We conducted 2 on-site seminars on “Improving your mental performance” during the Fast bowling camp at the Six Cricket Academy. The young bowlers attending the camp were provided with interactive insights on the importance of mental health, handling pressure situations, pyschological aspects of bowling and scenarios. |

Development program for Sports coaches of AU Bano Champions Program |

|
We partnered to provide ‘Sports Science’ seminars for AU Foundation’s "Bano Champion" Coaches Development Program held in Jaipur in the last week of June. Through this we conducted workshops on Sports Nutrition (by Sports Nutrition expert - Geetha) and Menstruation Health and sport (by Aditi Mutatkar). The workshop was attended by 66 grassroot level coaches of the HKL Foundation who work with children across the state of Rajasthan to deliver various sport programs. |

| | Ankita Dhyani Middle and long-distance runner At the 25th National Federation Cup Senior Athletics Competition held at Kozhikode, Kerala Ankita bagged Silver medal in 1500m with a new personal best of 4:16.07 and held 6th position at the 5KM with a new personal best of 16:13.54. With a keen interest for numbers ,she has cleared the foundation level of Indian Chartered accountancy and is currently pursuing Chartered global management accountancy (CGMA-UK) . She is an amatuer artist and a bibliophile. |

Over the last few years participation of females in sports in India has definitely increased but what has still not changed is the perception of people towards emphasizes women playing sports. In this article, Urja highlights the policies and strategies the Indian government has implemented to improve the participation of women in sports in India but also emphasizes the grim picture of the mentality of the Indian society as well as the negligence to change this thinking. She leaves the reader with the thought that do females feel like a pawn in the sports industry or if the trends have changed. |
