JANUARY NEWSLETTER

Thank you to those of you that have bought a USB drive package - I'm astounded by your response! I have written a short blog post on how to make the most of these resources.

My exit ticket collection continues to grow. This month I have added standard form, indices, averages, IB sequences and series, bounds and averages from frequency tables.

I've also been busy updating a few older lesson packs that have needed attention for quite a while now! The pie charts lesson now has much clearer step-by-step instructions and built-in animations, so you if you don't have whiteboard tools, you can still demonstrate the method to students. The averages from tables lesson is now split into frequency tables and grouped frequency tables, so you can teach the whole thing, or split it as appropriate for your class. Algebra and shape is now more clearly split too, into questions that do not require knowledge of quadratics and questions that do. Rearranging formulae is much tidier and now has correctly written equations throughout (I love that alt+= shortcut in Microsoft Office!). The examples are also better suited to the activities.

As well as…

Properties of Circles

A highly repetitive lesson to teach students about the various parts of circles. Leads in nicely to circle theorems.

Angle and Line Bisectors

This lesson has been missing for a while now, but hopefully is very clear and useful. Includes video tutorials (and I even taught myself how to make a GIF!).

How to Edit Master Slide Tutorial

I have created a short video tutorial to help PixiMaths users to further personalise the PowerPoints to suit the needs of their classes (and requirements of their schools).

Website of the Month: Dr Frost Maths

I have been using Dr Frost's A Level lessons for several years now - I really like them as they explain everything clearly, including how to use the ClassWiz calculator, and they are a perfect accompaniment to the Edexcel textbooks. It's only this month, however, that I've started to use Dr Frost's homework tool as well. It's easy to sign students up, set work, mark work and even get a dialogue going with students to support them before the deadline. A fantastic FREE tool!
