DECEMBER 2023 Updates from STUDIO HROMI |
It's my last newsletter of 2023! In terms of life updates, I finished the anatomy lab I was taking this semester at GVSU, meaning I'll soon need to start prepping for the CMI exam which I'm planning to take in July. It's still several months away, but I'm characteristically anxious and feeling the need to be over-prepared. I was also recently interviewed and featured by ShoutOut Michigan, where I talked a lot about medical illustration and the Association of Medical Illustrators. Lastly, my plans for the next few weeks are to work as little as possible and enjoy some quiet winter solitude. |

If you need to get a last-minute gift or some stocking stuffers, please place those orders no later than December 18! I want to be sure they reach you in time for Christmas. |

| | I've been gradually growing my sticker offerings over the past year, with plans to add more. Who doesn't love a sticker? | | |

On February 15 and 16, I will be providing visual accompaniment to local musician Brother Wolf during a concert in the Grand Rapids Public Museum's Roger B. Chaffee Planetarium. Before Studio Hromi began, I worked at GRPM as the Planetarium & Theater Manager (a career that spanned five years!) and Concerts Under the Stars was a series of events that I actually started and coordinated during my time there. It has been a delight to see them continue under the current planetarium leadership, and an even bigger delight to be invited back for the second year in a row as a visual artist. I'm excited that I get to experiment with video and animation again in the planetarium, and I might share some snippets on Instagram as things progress. About Concerts Under the Stars: Concerts Under the Stars are immersive fulldome concert experiences highlighting local musicians and visual artists. Local West Michigan bands perform their music, enhanced by original video art projected onto the planetarium’s 50-foot dome. Musicians and visual artists collaborate to weave together an exclusive immersive concert experience that has quickly become a staple of the underground West Michigan music scene. About This Event: If you're in Grand Rapids, Concerts Under the Stars in general are not to be missed. These shows sell out fast, so be sure to get your tickets right away! Music starts at 7:30pm with doors opening at 6:30pm. The show consists of two sets with a short intermission in between. Refreshments, beer, and other beverages will be available for purchase, as will merch from musicians and visual artists alike. Tickets are $20, with discounted pricing of $16 for GRPM members, and can be purchased here. |

SHOUTOUT TO SOME OTHER GRAND RAPIDS ARTISTS |
I just feel like showing off cool people whose work I've been admiring lately. Maybe this will become a regular or semi-regular feature of these newsletters? I suggest you follow both of these artists immediately, because their work is some of my favorite in this town. |

I have one more holiday market to close out 2023, on Sunday December 17 from 4-8pm at the Pyramid Scheme. Full details can be found at studiohromi.com/events. I am gradually adding more events in 2024, but will likely be taking a break from markets during the month of January. Thank you for your support this year! |

You can also shop anytime online at studiohromi.com/shop and while supplies last at the Grand Rapids Public Museum Curiosity Shop and Scorpion Hearts Club. I'm currently looking for one or two additional local spots to sell my wares, so if you have any ideas for shops that would be a good fit please pass them along. |

As always, Instagram is the best way to keep up with all of my goings-on and behind-the-scenes goodies, but you can follow me on any of the platforms below, plus TikTok, Tumblr, and Threads. |
