💛PET OF THE MONTH💛 Glacier! Glacier is a very active and fun puppy, she is about 5 months old. Unfortunately she doesn't do great at our adoption events. She gets gets bored and frustrated on the leash. She has places to go!! Her fosters tell us she is wonderful in their home. She loves the other dogs, is potty trained and listens very well. She needs an active home that will keep her busy. We include a group training class with all our adoptions so we can give her a great start. Text 702-435-6422 to find out more information. |

💛HEAR FROM THE TRAINER💛 Ten house training tips Crate training is the fastest way to house train, not a doggie door. Go outside with the dog to praise immediately after they go potty, don’t give a treat when they come in the house or the dog doesn’t finish business outside and wants to go inside quickly to get the treat Take the poop accident and even the pee outside and put it where you want the dog to go and praise “good potty.” Don’t discipline unless you see the dog go. If you see the dog, scream “eh eh” and rush outside and tell to potty outside. If the dog doesn’t go now then he goes to the crate u til the next time he goes outside. Do your basic commands (sit, down & stay) on top of the accident sights so you are taking over those areas with your leadership. Don’t allow the dog to go anytime they want when you are on a walk. You should release them and say “go potty.” Then, they will learn to go on command. Lots of praise when you see them go outside. You can take a treat in your pocket outside with you. Verbal praise is just as good. Do not allow dogs that are still potty training to have their food down all the time. Give them 20 minutes and they are done. The rest of the food comes up. They will learn to eat when it’s down within 3 days. Rule of thumb is that dogs can be in their crate an hour for each month old they are. Do not let them roam the house. They should be in crate, on your lap. or attached to a leash, which is attached to your location. Do not let them see you clean up their poop outside on poop clean up day. That is confusing. Same with the soiling in the house.
Something to keep in mind is that the worse the dog food is, the more they will have to go to the bathroom. When a dog is potty trained fully, they don’t occasionally still have an accident. There is no “almost” in potty training. They are or are not. Any questions call or text me. 702-860-0234 Sonya Hersh |
