What We’re Up To

Note from the Director, July 2021

by Patricia Cream

We are back! Fully open for business and as close to NORMAL as practical.

First Friday ARTScrawl on July 2nd will have all the excitement back as we celebrate the State fully reopening. Date night will be as it should be on a Friday night at The Gallery ABQ. In the Salon, we have Mark Serafin’s show “Let it Be” (acrylics/resin Zias), alcohol (beer/cider/wine) sponsored by Tractor Brewing, and live music by Kevin and Anne Worley “Worleysings.” Join us for your date night or just a night out enjoying the arts.

The Gallery ABQ is doing our part in the Community:

The Gallery ABQ is becoming more involved in community projects. Starting in July, we will be the art sponsor for Tractor Brewing’s Westside location. What does this mean? We have joined with Tractor Brewery to hang artwork from our gallery members that will decorate their brewery walls. This venue will give our artists another location to hang their art and let the Westside community get to know who we are and the diverse art we bring to the Albuquerque art scene. We are responsible for all sales and for changing the art out on a quarterly basis.  Stop by Tractor Brewery at 5720 McMahon Blvd NW, Building 5, Suite A. Our show starts on July 1st.

The Gallery ABQ has been given the opportunity to do fundraisers for local community projects with the generous donation of Jeremy Stein’s photography. During the months of July and August, we will be selling Jeremy’s framed and matted prints through the gallery with 50% of these sales going to Roadrunner Food Bank. Roadrunner distributes food across New Mexico to small food distribution partners, schools, homeless shelters, and anyone who needs help with food. In 2019, they distributed 30 million pounds; in 2020, they distributed 40 million pounds. By June 2021, 60 million pounds of food had been distributed to New Mexicans. Each week, Roadrunner feeds approximately 70,000 people. Please join us in helping this local food distributor by buying one of Jeremy Stein’s pieces of photography.  You can purchase pieces online at https://www.thegalleryabq.com/jeremysteinstore or by coming to the gallery. We will have 16x20 framed pieces hanging at the gallery and a bin of his matted photography.

Call for Artists: If you are a local artist looking for a Contemporary Fine Arts Gallery to show your art, please go to our website https://www.thegalleryabq.com to get more information about our gallery, including an application.  If you are interested, please send in your application, and we can set up a jury date.

The salon show in July will feature Mark Serafin. Mark uses acrylics and resin to create his Zia symbol art. He has titled his show “Let it Be.” The July First Friday ARTScrawl will be on July 2nd, 5:00-8:00 pm.

The Featured Artist in July is Nancy Schrock. She loves to create many kinds of artwork, but currently prefers pastels and pencils. She shared a quote on her gallery website page that really touched me: “The doors we open and close each day decide the lives we live,” by Flora Whittemore. This is true in how we perceive the opportunities, the gifts, and the blessings we are given. I look forward to more customers opening our doors and discovering the variety of art available at the artist reception on July 2nd and each day moving forward.
