Endless Updates: January 2022

Hello from the Endless OS Foundation, and thanks for signing up to our newsletter! Here's what's happening at Endless.

Have you seen our blog yet? Launched in 2021, it features our thoughts and insights around people + technology for good. From working with Indigenous offline communities in Oaxaca MX, to discussing how we can make PCs more affordable for millions of people, there's plenty to read related to bridging the Digital Divide.

Our most recent article by CEO Rob McQueen reviews our 2021–2022 programs focus. This includes the launch of the Endless Laptop Program which is bringing more-affordable laptops to families in-need, and the evolution of the Endless Key and Endless OS – both designed for offline use by students and families with unstable or no internet access.

The Endless Key is designed to provide high-quality and curated learning and discovery resources to offline students in the USA via 128 gigabyte USB drives. We have partnered with Common Sense and Learning Equality to launch this program, and we are now looking to drive distribution of Keys to offline students as the pandemic continues.

Most recently San Francisco 49ers EDU and Techbridge Girls have begun distributing Keys to their student communities. 2022 will be an important year for the Key and our partners in supplying this offline resource.

If you would like to help us distribute more Endless Keys, donations can be given in $30 increments here via Learning Equality. With each donation, we will provide underserved learners with a wealth of relevant digital educational materials.

Additional goings on at Endless OS Foundation:

  • We recently won the OpenUK’s Belonging award at the 2021 Open Source Awards for promoting digital inclusion via our programs and Endless operating system.
  • Learn more about the free Linux-based Endless OS designed for offline users. Our OS is preloaded with hundreds of resources and is as easy to use as a smartphone. Once downloaded, no internet is required. 4.0 is available now.
  • This upcoming April will mark our 2nd anniversary as a nonprofit!

Digital Divide Facts:

According to Common Sense Media, there are still up to 16 million students in the U.S. without full access to the technology they need to thrive in the new digital landscape. That's a population larger than Pennsylvania or Los Angeles County.
