Hi everyone,
Thank you for your support of Tikkun Olam: Jewish Social Workers for Social Justice and Palestinian Liberation.
We feel that Jewish social workers and therapists have an integral role in understanding and disrupting the dehumanization of Palestinian people while recognizing and healing our Jewish intergenerational trauma. As social workers we are also called to address the rise in anti-Palestinian racism, antisemitism and Islamophobia in our communities, as we stand up for Palestinian liberation.
In a few days, Jewish people all over the world will be entering the time of Passover. The Passover story, with its themes of liberation and renewal, invites us to consider our own journeys toward freedom and justice. We gather to tell the story, reflect on our own histories of trauma and oppression, to understand our oppression is connected with all oppressions and our liberation is bound up in each other.
This Passover we are deeply reflective and brokenhearted about the ongoing war and genocide in Gaza, the occupation of the West Bank, and the hostages and their grieving families. We hold all in our hearts as we tell the story of liberation. This Passover may we stand together in solidarity with all liberation movements, understanding no one is free until we are all free.
Passover teaches us, that in each generation we are called to make this journey, take responsibility for the histories and legacies we inherit, and create new possibilities for love, justice, and collective liberation.
In the words of Rabbi Hillel:
If I am not for myself, who will be for me?
If I am only for myself, what am I?
If not now, when?
Thank you once again for joining us on this journey and for advocating for a more just world,
