SAVE the DATES: Friday, Saturday & Sunday 24-26 March Recently it was suggested that we have an event at The Queanbeyan Hive that celebrates bees and with support from the NSW Government's Community Events Program, this is actually going to happen! We are so excited. Create Collaborate Collective Inc will be hosting an all ages event, over 3 days, with live music, stalls, workshops and activities - all to do with bees and pollinators. If you would like to get involved and participate as a volunteer, an educator or an artist we would love to hear from you. If you know of anyone else that could be interested, please share this email. We also have opportunities for selling your bee related products and art. Email Helen at info@qbnhive.buzz with your expression of interest ASAP to bee part of this exciting event! |

Thanks to Southern Tableland Arts we were able to offer our very first artist in residency during January.
Lisa Stevenson was the STA AiR (Artist in Residence) for our local LGA and the Hive donated its space to be used for this residency. Elder Aunty Matilda House welcomed Lisa over a morning tea and she visited the Queanbeyan River with her to source and collect reeds. |

Lisa is an emerging artist, currently completing a fine art degree at ANU school of art. Lisa’s work explores ideas about place, looking closely at flora. Working in a sustainable way she uses plants and recycled materials to create small sculptural artworks responding to specific sites, through natural dyes, and basketry techniques. During the STA AiR at The Qbn Hive, Lisa explored place, particularly the river in Queanbeyan to further understand its history, and current state. Lisa explored the plants that grow along the river and in the Hive garden to create natural dyes to modify materials sourced from Queanbeyan op shops. |

Lisa says... "It has been a great start to 2023, and kickstarted me into creating some new works and exploring different materials. I think this opportunity has also really made me think about my art practice outside of the university experience, and how I might practice in the future. The Hive was a great base to work out of, and I encountered many locals when I was working on the verandah, and had some wonderful conversations about art and life." Lisa's works are on show in the newly installed STA Box Gallery which is located in The Q in Queanbeyan. BOX Gallery exhibitions are available to STA Members on application. 2022 Wrap Up by Helen Ferguson (Founder and President of Create Collaborate Collective Inc) It was another huge year for COVID in 2022 and if you had not already contracted it in 2021 you most likely got it in 2022. I did, just before our Heritage Festival event in April so I was really grateful for the team of volunteers who helped pull it off. Create Collaborate Collective Inc would not be able to provide arts and music at The Hive if it was not for the board and the volunteers who contribute their time and energy to our mission of supporting the arts in Queanbeyan. I thank each and everyone who has jumped on board to bee part of our growing community. A goal for 2023 is to build up our bee team of supporters and to create better structures to expand our volunteer capacity. I recently attended my first Woodford Folk Festival and found myself managing one of the bars as my friend who had volunteered for this position fell sick on the first day. Without any preparation for what this entailed, I lasted 3 days before waking up with an anxious feeling that this was too similar to my life in Queanbeyan and that I really need a break from any stress! Despite being 25% down in volunteers the Woodford Volunteers rallied support and everyone stepped up so that I could enjoy some of the amazing Festival. What I did take away is that everyone – even established events of 35 years’ experience are struggling to recuperate after 3 years of a Pandemic. I also got some great knowledge of the procedures they put in place for managing volunteers. :-) The year could not have ended on a better note than the announcement that we had been successful in getting grant funding through the Community Building Partnership 2022 NSW Government scheme. 35K is to go towards a pergola in the garden space at the rear of the cottage to give us adequate protection from the elements and to increase our capacity to offer workshops and activities for larger groups. We are now looking for inspiring and available builders to help us with this mission and wish to have this done ASAP! |
