Hello,
Another difficult week with the devastation of Hurricane Ida, fires in California, the aftermath of the withdrawal of US troops and allies in Afghanistan, and the relentless Delta variant of COVID.
Here's what happened on hertelier:
- SCOOP for Round-Up readers! Want to know how to network like a pro? We chatted with entrepreneur, Davonne Reaves, who went from a front desk clerk at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta to become the first Black female hotel owner of a major brand at the tender age of 33. How? Networking. She spills her secret tips and tricks in this must-see video!
- A new global study by WiH Global, Questex, and Hospitality Insights shows women and minorities are underrepresented in leadership, but more equal in entry and mid-level management jobs. The good news is that aging Boomers should create opportunities for change in the coming years.
- In times of crisis, we are even more grateful to those for whom service is a calling. This week columnist Nancy Mendelson pays tribute.
Listen Up: How do you view failure? A crushing blow or a way to learn? English author and journalist Elizabeth Day has turned failure into a cottage industry with a chart-topping podcast and books on the subject of failure. Her podcast "How to Fail" is a favorite of mine, she asks everyone from lauded scientists and athletes to authors and celebrities about their failures and what they've learned. Let me know what you think!
