The 10 Greatest Achievements of 2020

Though it has been a tough year, it is coming to end, and we can now look back on all that we have achieved. Since January, Kay Blada has...

1. Recycled 35,757 pounds of plastic.
2. Provided employment to 31 plastic collectors, 25 teachers, 6 full-time employees, and 3 part-time employees.
3. Partnered with 2 hospitals, 7 schools, and 10 local businesses to collect recyclable materials which are normally discarded in waterways or informal dumps.
4. Provided environmental education programs to 1,800 students in Hinche.
5. Kept all staff and collectors employed during COVID-19.
6. Provided education and support to the community of Hinche throughout the pandemic through door-to-door action, radio shows, and consistent employment.
7. Aired 6 radio specials in Haiti communicating the importance of a clean environment and urging people to get involved with Kay Blada.
8. Began another plastic collection program in Cap-Haitien, Haiti, doubling the amount of plastic recycled each month and protecting Haiti's beaches from plastic waste.
9. Celebrated its 5-year anniversary with a community event.
10. Staff continued to further their education through educational and motivational events such as Hinche Startup Week.

COVID-19 presented a lot of challenges, and this year Kay Blada Recycling survived on only half the donations of the previous year. We understand this was a tough year, and we would like to thank everyone who was able to contribute. Even in the toughest times, we were able to accomplish so much. Here's to an even better 2021!

Kay Blada's 5th Anniversary Celebration

Founded in December 2015, Kay Blada Recycling is officially 5 years old. To celebrate, we brought together all of our staff, collectors, and community members in a commemorative ceremony. There was a feeling of overall excitement and pride for all that has been accomplished.

Kay Blada has grown so much in 5 years, from a simple idea that started in a $15 rented backyard to a true leader in the community. There was much to celebrate, and though there were some inconveniences (lack of evening lighting, not enough food, etc.) the event was an important milestone for the whole organization. Thank you for a great five years!
