Meet our new Shout Out crew
Meet our amazing 14 new Shout Out speakers! We are really excited that this year's Shout Out program has expanded to include the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people. This July our new young speakers undertook intensive training on public speaking and sharing their story. All the new speakers showcased their new skills at an event and are now ready to be booked for speaking engagements. You can check out the new speakers and their bios by clicking on the button below.

With the help of Taku Mbudzi, Josh Martin and Percy Calino we now have Shout Out podcasts for each speaker. You can listen to the short podcasts to find out more about each speaker at the link below.

Stories of migration
Last week 11 Shout Out speakers attended Methodist Ladies College (MLC) to speak with a group of 60 students about their migration journey and adjusting to the Australian way of life. Amran and Neeka reflected on the event:

“It was my third year coming back to MLC. Gosh I love that school! Upon arrival we were greeted by girls who were all buzzing with excitement. The girls are all super polite and very enthusiastic about learning about migrant and refugee stories. We were then separated into our groups and gosh did I love my group! They had some impressive question taking techniques. It felt like I was being interviewed by a group of journalists. Very professional, diligent and to the point, an overall lovely experience.” – Amran Abdi

“I had a great time with the girls yesterday! Was so impressed with their warmth as well as their overall professionalism. They were able to come up with impromptu questions, which really enabled them to capture a fuller story and demonstrated to me their high levels of interviewing skills (which I have still not seen in some university level students). Awesome to see such mind provoking topics being taught and so well received by such young girls!” – Neeka Zand

YACWA is seeking five creative young people with lived experience of being a young carer to join the core team as youth consultants. This is a PAID opportunity. Not all young people identify as a young carer, but we want to hear from you if you are a young person who either currently, or in the past, has helped to look after a relative with a disability, illness, mental health condition, or drug or alcohol problem. A young carer typically helps to care for a parent or caregiver, or a brother or sister. Applications clos at 4pm, Wednesday 12th September 2018.
