Happy New Year - 2024

We know it’s nearly February, but our little Meadery closes in January and we take a well needed break from markets and social media, to recover from the chaos that is Christmas!

And talking of Christmas, we want to thank you all for the wonderful support you showed us – the markets went frantic and the web sales took off, keep us busy right up until the last minute!  We did manage to get the Christmas Tree up just before Christmas Eve!

Whilst January may be quiet on the external front, we are have been busy in the ‘development kitchen’ and have been trying a few new recipes, so watch this space.  They need to win the approval of our Taste Testers and we will keep you posted as things progress.

Some of you may remember the totally disgusting Sprout Mead we produced to raise money for St Michaels Hospice in Basingstoke… well you crazy lot support Mr Mead with this idea and happily purchased the appalling stuff… we raised a total of £113.  We will publish their confirmation letter as soon as we receive it.

Market wise, we have a new regular monthly market.  As well as the wonderful Silchester Village Market, which takes place on the first Saturday of each month, we will now be attending a Sunday market at the Holly Blue pub in Basingstoke.  This one will take place on the first Sunday of each month – details are on the events page of our website.  We hope to see you there.

We are relaunching the Saxnōt Faran for 2024 - and this time we are giving you more time to travel!

As you know, according to the Anglo-Saxon dictionary, Faran is old Saxon for travel, to set forth, to journey.

We still want to see how far you have traveled with our Mead and we still need photographic evidence!  Last year, we warned about photoshopping mead on the moon so some bright spark sent us 'evidence' of our Mead as UFO (we just had to award her the 'mad as a box of frogs' prize).

There are still two categories, worldwide travel, and UK travel. The winner in each category will win the (single) bottle of Mead in the photograph!

The closing date for entry is 1 December 2024 and we will publish winners by the 20 December 2024.  Distances will be calculated from our Meadery in Basingstoke by me, Mrs Mead, using Google Maps or a similar modern tech, assuming I can get it to work. I do have an atlas if all else fails!

And finally… as we have new products in development, we need to clear some space.  So we are having a bit of a sale.  Mr Mead tells me it is what is classed as a ‘bin end’ sale… but I pointed out that we are not selling bins… but we are selling off all remaining stock of our Apple Cyser and Leoht Pyment – these will be offered at half price at the February markets in Silchester and at the Holly Blue… grab yourself a bargain as we really need the space!

We will never share your details with anyone - we hate it when we sign up for something and then get bombarded with rubbish from people we have never heard of, so we promise we will not do this to you. If you would prefer not to hear from us, please click on the 'unsubscribe' link below.
